Central Ill. Gen. Qtrly Fall 1999, Decatur, Ill. J. W. CARTER, received a letter yesterday morning from his cousin, Albert E. Hello Schannon, My ggGrandmother was Elizabeth Jane CARTER b. Fountain County, Indiana in 1838. I've not found her family yet but Census records state her father was born in Ohio and mother in Pa. I was wondering if you might share some of your Ohio Carter information with me if you have anything from the time period. Thanks, Marie Cook -----Original Message----- From: Kevin & Schannon McCloud [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, July 07, 2002 10:27 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [CARTER-L] Carter's from Ohio Is anyone researching the Carter's that were in Ohio? Lawrence County mostly but they did move else where. Mine starts with a Peter Carter but we cannot get any further with them. He had a son Jesse Carter and don't know the rest off top of my head. Interested in hearing from anyone with connections. Thanks Schannon McCloud

Hello I have just joined the list and would like to submit my interests in the CARTER name. Susan CARTER married 12 Feb 1824 James HITCHCOCK possibly in Warmstone, Buckinghamshire. They had 5 children, before Susan died. James remarried and brought the children to Australia in 1842. If anyone is interested in this line I would love to hear from you. Regards Lois see my research names at http://www.wags.org.au/mid/6454.htm
HI As a recent list subscriber, I wonder does anyone have any knowledge of, or connections with, a Henry Charles Carter in 1924 a marine fireman living in Preston Lancashire, England, when his eldest daughter was married. Appears to have married on the Fylde, Lancashire, possibly worked on Fleetwood trawlers, so would have been born around 1875. He has become something of a brick wall, (hopefully temporary). Regards Tom Iddon

Dear President Bush: Many of us were deeply touched to hear you recite a portion of Psalm 23 in your address to this great nation in the dark hours following the terrorists attacks. We were encouraged and comforted to know that we truly had a believer working with us and for us in our nation's highest office. We, the people of America, are requesting that you lift the prohibition of prayer in schools. As the pledge of our great country states, we are to be "One nation, under God." Please allow the prayers and petitions of our children in schools without the threat of punishment. Currently, adults and children in the schools are prohibited from mentioning God unless of course His name is uttered as part of a curse or profanity. Madeline Murray O'Hare is dead. I received many, many responses... There seemed to be no particular reason for the pattern or destination of the migrants...Everything from Anti Slavery beliefs, Free or low cost land, Sickness at the old home, for their health,(Someone told them to get out of town) Wanderlust, religious beliefs,(Such as the Mormans) Some went because relatives had gone before them... The particular route chosen apparently was due to the roads or trails that existed, (the National Road, The buffalo Trace from Jeffersonville to Vincennes, etc.)There was a trail early that ran along what is now US231, from Rockport to Lafayette. I did not really come up with any new reasons for the group, follow the leader type, migrations. Perhaps I will in the future. Best regards, and thanks for the responses.
