    3. When we were sending out flyers for the Carter DNA project, I received the following. It got buried as we were dealing with the effects of three hurricanes. Thought some of you might be able to give this woman some help on her genealogy voyage: (She has some kind of spam block on her computer, so if you write to her and get it returned, send it to me.) She says: I noted your project and address in Arkansas (Ashely Co) newsletter. My mother ( 1912) from a Kentucky Carter line that originated in Pittsylvania Va prior 1800s. Her line settled in Grayson Co. KY (close to Litchfield) where she and her siblings were all born, near Ca??eyville. Mother's brother who is 90-odd years is now the only sibling alive. Mom died in 2001, Most of these Carter line descendants eventually migrated to IL, IN, MD in mid 1930-40s. Please fill me in on yor project I hope to be able to contribute to your effort A Fellow genealogist Janet (Eggleston) Haddock acesmom@earthlink.net ----I called Janet on the phone and she gave me to following ancestors' names: Lewis Riley Carter and Charles E. 1. Rebecca, 1823-1902, possible dtr of John A. CARTER
    2. sdmarsh
    3. Hi Everyone: I've meandered back to my CARTER line and hope someone is out there who can help. My last known Carter ancestor was Rebecca M. CARTER, b. 2Sept1823 in GA, d. 1Jun1902 in Coffee Co, AL, m. Jonathan J. BRUNSON 15Jan1843 in Randolph Co, GA, b. 7Feb1820 in SC, d. 10Jun1904 in Coffee Co, AL. I am trying to identify her parents. I have been researching each of the males in the Randolph Co, GA census in 1840, going backwards and forwards since I've not be lucky enough to just find a will naming her. There are several grown males in 1840 Randolph Co. but only one who has a female in the right age range to be Rebecca. That is John A. CARTER who is in Randolph Co, GA from 1840 to 1860 and appears to be in Monroe Co, GA in 1830 and Jasper Co, GA in 1820. There is a marriage for a John A. CARTER to a Avarilla McMICHAEL in Jasper Co. on 19Mar1816 which would fit with the age ranges for the children of John A. in the early censuses. In 1850 there is a John A., age 58 in Randolph Co, GA, wife is Ann also 58. Children in the household are Mary, age 20, Elizabeth, age 18 and Nancy, age 16. Early censuses would give John A and Avarilla right children: 1 M b. bet 1815-1820, 1 M b. bet. 1820-1825, 1 F b. bet. 1820-1825 (hopefully my Rebecca), 2 M b. bet. 1825-1830, Mary b. abt 1830 in GA, Elizabeth b. abt 1! 832 in GA and Nancy b. abt 1834 in GA. I've found at least one researcher who has Mary and Elizabeth as the same person, so that's a possibility at this point as well, although it would contradict two separate census records (1850 and 1860). Does anyone know anything about this John A. CARTER that might help me prove or disprove the above hypothesis that he is the father of Rebecca? 1. CARTER, Littleton- Mystery in VA early 1900's
    2. Savasnia
    3. I have been working on a family mystery for a few years. My great grandparents were Rosa Ethling MARTIN born 1909 in King & Queen, VA daughter of William F. MARTIN & Mollie Lou ALEXANDER. Rosa married Littleton CARTER on May 2, 1925 in Port Richmond, King William Co, VA. Littleton was born between 1901 & 1904 in Middlesex County, VA. The couple resided together for their short marriage in Port Richmond, King William, VA. Littleton's death certificate reads Parents: Unknown. His marriage record reads John W. & Susan CARTER as his parents. The 1910 Jamaica, Middlesex, VA census shows Littleton CARTER as John W. & Susan CARTER'S grandson. In the 1920 Jamaica, Middlesex, VA census his surname is given as ROY the only time it was ever given as ROY to my knowledge & he is listed as the grandson of Susan CARTER. One child came of his union with Rosa, my grandmother, Violet E. CARTER. Tragically, Littleton succumbed to tuberculosis 4 months before his daughter was born. Rosa remarried a little over a year after Littleton's death to a Marcus Aurellious CARTER and if he was of any kin to Littleton it has not yet been discovered by me. Rosa succumbed to tuberculosis less than two years after she gave birth to Littleton's child & 5 months after her marriage to Aurellious. Their daughter Violet was raised by her first cousin; her father's brother's child Lula MARTIN & her uncle, brother to her mother, Aubrey ALEXANDER who were married & childless. What I am desperate to know is..... Who was Littleton CARTER'S biological parents? Was he the illegitimate child of one of John & Susan CARTER'S children? When was he born? Where in Middlesex county is he buried? I never knew my grandmother Violet but I have heard she was a kind & gentle person. In her pictures, especially as a child, she looks to be of native american descent Please help if you can. ~Jeanette

    2. Elaine Oakes
    3. Thomas was my ancestor, through his son Josiah Carter. According to the Josiah Carter book by Randolph Malone, Thomas owned land in Cumberland Co, VA (on the North Side of the James River, near the branches of Fleming's Park Creek, "on branches of said river falling into Rock Castle lowlands". At least most of it was later sold by his sons). The book doesn't show a land transfer to John and Rebecca McGuire nor does it show a daughter named Rebecca. However, if Rebecca had died her family might not have been mentioned in the 1763 will, especially if Thomas gave them land earlier. From the book (much condensed): Thomas Carter Sr (abt 1680, England - 1738, Goochland Co, VA) m. 1st unk, 2nd Penele Carrol, 3rd Susanna Baynes (second son of Thomas Sr) Thomas Carter Jr (abt 1700, England - 1763, Goochland Co, VA) m. 1st unk, 2nd (1751) Mary Killypatrick Children of Thomas Carter Jr: Mary (abt 1739) m.
