The Carson lines that came to TN (most came from NC/SC/VA or PA prior) name their sons William, David, Robert, James, Samuel, John, Andrew, Alexander, Matthew or George. You'll see Walter and Daniel sometimes. The James first name occurred in branches of my Carson line that came to Orange/Caswell and Guilford/Surry NC 1760s. But it also occurred in almost all of the other lines I've researched. A unique first name is sometimes important.
