My ancestor Robert Carson born c1730 married Margaret Woods 1755 in Lancaster/Paxtang PC, then they moved to NC (I descend from their son David Carson born c1760). Some other Carson lines out of PA and SC are exact matches. I'm fairly certain that my Robert 1730 was not a son of your older Robert 1717 because in his will your Robert said David was his only son, and my Robert I think was still alive. A Robert Carson dec'd 1760 Cumberland Co PA connects somehow to my Robert. Your Robert almost has to be at least a cousin of my Robert's father, if not a brother (based on the close YDNA matches).
