THIS IS WHO MY ANCESTORS THOUGHT WAS THE WILLIAM CARSON FROM IRELAND (or why else would they have his obit stuck in the old family Bible)? Do any of you have more information on THIS William Carson??? Check the dates because that is about all the obit gave specific info on....no members of his family were named. William Carson (1735-1819) b. Ireland d. Chilicothe, Ross Co, Ohio. According to the obit published in the Chilicothe, Ross Co. Ohio newspaper in 1819, William Carson had died at the age of 85. He was the father of 13 children, grandfather of 74 grand children and 7 great-grandchildren at the time of his death. His birth place was Ireland in 1735, and he came to America in 1773. Unfortunately, most obits back in those days were more concerned with the "soul" of the dearly departed than they were with the survivors and other personal information. The obits read more like sermons than stories of someone's life. There is no wife's name mentioned (living nor dead) and none of the children were named. We do know by documents from that time that he lived in Ross County, OHIO from 1809 until his death...but he could have lived there longer...we just know that he started out in America in PA. He would fit into the dates of arriving in America in 1773 that my family had written into the family Bible about the 3 Carson brothers arriving in America in 1773. Our William was my family line's direct ancestor, Thomas (?) was the ancestor of Christopher "Kit" Carson's line, and a third brother started another line of Carsons. And all three brothers left PA and started moving across America in different directions. My line wandered toward Ohio, then some dropped dow! n into Nebraska and Kansas, then Oklahoma. I think my line was looking for the opening lands of the Great Plains. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
