    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: truthseeker68 Surnames: CARSON Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carson/2891.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I also am a female Carson, so I had my older brother to do the YDNA test for the Carson surname. I am very eager to get the results back. I followed the line of Carsons that I THOUGHT were my line, but when it came to three William Carsons who all came to America around 177-1775...I got lost. I can "prove" my surname ancestors up to William Carson born in PA on 4 Jul 1776 (by entries in the old family Bible, but I cannot PROVE which of the multitude of Williams who came to America from Ireland in the 1770s was my William's father. I even checked with the LDS files and they said that they cannot find documentation (at this point) to say "for sure" which one would go with my direct line. I am hoping that when we get my brother's DNA test back that we might be able to actually figure out which William it was that brought MY line of the family to America. I had about 4 more generations put into my tree with the Carson ancestors, but I unlinked them since I have no proof of anyo! ne before William who was born in 1776. It gets frustrating....but I want to find the right person. Maybe if enough Carsons will do the YDNA testing, we can all come up with answers to this perplexing problem. 3. Truthseeker, Don't get too excited.  I did the Y-DNA test through my father so I could determine which Uriah descended from which and such.  There's the NC Quaker Uriah line and there's my line from TN-IL and there was another line which I felt descended from the Quakers (the true Uriah Jr).  I thought that Y-DNA would sort it out.  Well, maybe at 64 or 150 or whatever large one they end up doing, but at 12, all three Uriah lines were perfect matches.  No paper trail left for these three lines.  Ah well. Anyway, it's possible you'll match with more than one because you're cousins with the other lines.  It's still great information to have.  You know there is a tie somewhere, you just likely will never have it with precision. ________________________________ I also am a female Carson, so I had my older brother to do the YDNA test for the Carson surname.
