He married Mary Anderson who was born in North Carolina in 1863. Mary had two children from a previous marriage (?): Nora (b.1878) and Sumlens (b.1890). Alfred and Mary had three daughters: Hattie, Ruth Cleora, and Priscilla Dove. They moved to Upland, Indiana, where Alfred died around 1931. Mary preceded him in death. Alfred and Mary divorced their respective spouses to marry. My mother told me they moved to Indiana because of the stigma of divorce. Does this story ring anyone's bell? I am looking for an Alfred Carson who divorced in N.C. around 1895/96. Additional info: Nora married Elbert Virgil Webb. She was interviewed on her 100th birthday and claimed Albert Carson was her "parent." However, Sumlens always used Anderson as his last name. Family oral history says "Anderson" was Mary's maiden name, so I am a bit confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
