David was probably born in PA. He lived in eastern TN after marrying then lived in Buncombe Co 1800-1810 and Haywood Co NC 1820. David had at least 4 sons: Matthew born 1790-91, Ambrose born 1799-1800, Samuel born 1804 and one more plus daughters Catherine, Virginia Jane and 4 others. In 1830, your William lived near David and his sons in Haywood Co. NC. The confusion as to their connection is the age ranges of the males listed in David's census household. In 1800 David lists 1 male 0-10 and 1 male 10-16. In 1810, he lists 2 males 0-10 and 2 males 16-26. In 1820, he lists 1 male 16-18 and 1 male 18-26. If William is not David's son, he may be a nephew...a son of David's brother Robert Carson or William Jr. According to Robert's descendants, he died c1820 in TN and his 18 yo son Shadrack was sent to live with a relative in Haywood NC. David is the only Carson in that county at the time. Shadrack shows up there in the 1830. Your William could be another son of Robert or a son of his brother William Jr. Research to date indicates that David Carson and Robert were sons of William Carson who died in 1790 in Washington Co TN. His will mentions wife Margaret (believed to be Margaret McCord), children Janet, Mary, William and John plus "my 3 other sons". County road records in 1790 showed David and Robert were sons of William. David was also executor of his will. William Carson and Margaret McCord were married 5/1/1760 in Dauphin (Lancaster) Co PA by Rev. John Roan. The same minister did the marriages of an older Robert Carson who married Margaret Woods in 1755, and a Mary Carson who married John Lee 3/22/1759 By the way, there were several David, Robert and William Carsons in Washington Co TN 1790-1800 who appear to be related. Many of these Carson families seem to have moved down from PA. I have a list of Wiliam and Lydia Crawford's children that came from another descendant. They are listed in our family tree with a side note that we're not certain as to him being a son or nephew. Let me know if you'd like to share information further. Gary Carson
