Evidently doing regular ancestral searching is passe for this group. It is all about DNA now. Well, there are some of us who cannot do that or have relatives that do not want to do it, even if I pay for it because they are not interested. That being the case, I guess you might as well delete me from the group. I cannot benefit from all of this at all.
Hi Sheila, There are many different ways to research and a lot of us have been doing this awhile and we've scoured the courthouses dry and have all there is. y-DNA offers something new. An open mind and positive attitude are often useful in life. Good luck in your research. Most of the people on lists like this understand that the pursuit of DNA matches is kind of a last ditch effort where genealogy research hits blank walls. Even with a "perfect match", when you start talking about a 75% possibility with a match of 37 markers something like twelve generations ago, it doesn't provide much help. Basically speaking, the YDNA results are only useful in a negative sense. If you think you are related to a particular Carson, and there isn't a match, then you can pursue other lines of inquiry. The bottom line: even with a DNA match it does not prove anything of real value except in a negative sense. So, stay on the list. You might get some clues that will really help in your research. There aren't any "quick fixes" in genealogy research and, frequently, you end up with "I'll never know". --- On Tue, 9/25/12, Sheila <sheilap@etex.net> wrote: > From: Sheila <sheilap@etex.net> > Subject: [CARSON] Searching and DNA > To: carson-l@rootsweb.com > Date: Tuesday, September 25, 2012, 1:45 PM > > Evidently doing regular ancestral searching is passe for > this group.
