A descendant of a presumed uncle of Kit Carson did the YDNA test. The results would show any biological paternal connectsion to this presumed uncle (and/or other Carson lineages). As you noted, almost every Carson family has a legend of being related to the famous scout, Kit Carson (Christopher Houston Carson). Kit's father Lindsey Carson was born 1750s in Rowan/Iredell Co NC (son of a William Carson there) and then moved to KY with his apparent brother Robert (they married sisters) and was later in MO.
