My grandmother constantly talked about her father (John Gay Carson) saying that we were related to Kit Carson (I know - lots of Carsons think this) but I heard about it so often, then upon seeing a picture of Kit in Taos, my mother was quite shocked at how much my great uncle resembled him. So - for this very thin reason - I do believe that James is in the same lineage that Kit was. But there are so many directions that line goes, it is taking lots of patience to wade through it.
