ALLEN, Retired Minister, is Dead at Home of Daughter. WAS INFLUENTIAL IN ORGANIZATION OF THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH IN LEBANON. Cyrus Benjamin Allen, retired minister of the Baptist church, and one of Lebanon's oldest residents, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joseph W. Witt, on East South street, Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. His death was sudden. Mr. Allen had been in feeble health for several months, but had been able to be up and about all the time, and his death was unexpected by his relatives. Mr. Allen was born in McConnellsville, Morgan county, Ohio. He was aged 90 years, 7 months and 18 days. He came to Indiana in 1846. As a minister of the Baptist church he served the following churches: Hollandburg, Bridgeton, Goshen, Mill Creek, Silverwood, Dover, Lebanon, Elizaville and Mt. Zion. He was a member of the First Baptist church in this city, and was instrumental in the church's organization here in 1873, serving as its pastor for nine years. During ! the civil war he served one year as chaplain in the One Hundred and Thirty-third regiment of Indiana volunteers. He was a member of Boone Lodge, No. 9, F, & A. M., and of the I.O.O.F. Mr. Allen was united in marriage to Susan Brown at Bridgeton in 1849. She died Nov. 13, 1894. His second marriage was to the late Mary Jane Miller, at Roachdale, in 1896. She died in May, 1906. The following children survive: C. B. Allen, Jr., of Missoula, Mont.; A. H. Allen of Galveston, this state; Charles F. Allen, of Indianapolis, Oliver Allen, of Brazil, and Mrs. J. W. Witt, of Lebanon. One sister, Mrs. Charlotte McBarnes, lives in Ames, Ia. The funeral will be conducted from the First Baptist church at 3:00 o'clock Friday afternoon by Rev. R. H. Kent, the pastor, and Rev. S. T. Reynolds. The Interment will be at Terre Haute.
