I spent a good deal of time sorting out Carsons in PA before the Rev War. Would be most interested in sharing information with you. What I've done is work exclusively form documentataion to establish the Carsons. Tried to get people on the Carson list to participate by contributing whatever proofs/documents they might have about early Carsons but not much interest in doing so. Most just make assumptions about relationships. Walter Carson who is first in Chester Ct. then what became Adams Ct. by early 1740s is my direct ancestor. He shows up in the Tax records for Chester Ct. 1729. In that same city is Samuel Carson m. Jane Patterson. We have a letter which establishes Walter and Samuel as blood relatives, though whether brothers or cousins is unknown. Walter Carson had two sons (William and John) who move to NC by 1783. We believe that he had a third son, Walter Carson, who married a daughter of Samuel Carson and ended up in York Ct. SC. Their daughter Agness married Henry Maxwell. Family lore says they were first cousins, but there is absolutely nothing to establish that relationship. Henry comes to the US after them, born 1726-1734. Several findings suggest that a William Carson of Dauphin who married Margaret McCord in 1760 PA moved to western NC then to eastern TN by the 1787. Other marriages by the same minister in Dauphin PA were Robert Carson and Margaret West in 1755 and Mary Carson and John Lee 1759. Other nearby marriages were James Carson and Mary Espy 1748. > >William Carson died in 1790, Washington Co TN and left a widow Margaret. Children were William, David, Robert, John, Janet and Mary. > >In Washington Co NC around 1787 were William, William Sr., William Jr., David, Robert, and Moses Carson. By 1792, there was David, David Sr., David Jr., Little David, Robert Sr., Robert Jr., John and William Jr. plus Robert, John and William in nearby Green County TN (before Jefferson was split off). The first group in 1787 appear to be related (brothers or cousins) who named their sons after their brothers. > >Has anybody sorted these out?
