In genealogy, you do have to decide WHY you are doing it. Do you want to keep what you have found to yourself or do you want to pass it on? It's a decision all of us have to make. I do a lot of work, and when a distant cousin of mine takes my work and mixes it all up, I too get irritated, but then I think of all the distant cousins who take my work and add what they have to it and we have a bigger and better thing because of it. There will always be those who don't understand, but I try to focus on those who do. Is your glass half empty or half full?
