My father is the grandson of Erastus Carson, the great grand son of John Carson of hector, NY and the great great grandson of Samuel Carson who came from Ireland about 1795 and settled in Virgil in Cortland County, New York about 1802. We are always looking for info connecting our Samuel Carson to the other Carson families. It is quite possible that his father's name was John put we really have no proof. We know from his registration as an alien in 1812 the names of his children. He have them all identified but a William born about 1808 in Cortland County. Recently, there has been several post regarding Kit Carson, the frontiersman and different people relationships. Our family too has that tradition. I really would like to see our list all work together to identify all of our brick walls and connect our families. Marilyn

Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carson/1363.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I now have more information about this family but still not everything I need. William Carson (parents Joseph Carson and Mary Irwin) and Ellen McIlwraith (parents Alexander McIlwraith and Anne Currans) married in Knockmany, Ireland in 1877. Their first son, Alexander was born in Glasgow in 1878. I have now discovered that they lived in America from around 1880-1887. During this time they had another two sons - William Thomas, born in Enfield, Conn on 1 Nov 1882 and Marvel (birth details not known but, when he died in 1889, his christian name was shown as Irwin). It seems they stopped off in Ireland for three months and during that time another son, Joseph, was born (again not much detail other than that he was born in November 1887.) They then returned to Glasgow and on 26 February 1890 their fifth son, Samuel, was born there. I am still having difficulty tracing all details of William, Joseph and Samuel but I have made some progress. I know that William married Catherine (surname unknown) and by 1920 they were living at 543 Harris Avenue, Providence, Rhode Island with two sons, William Andrew, (born Tyrone, Ireland, 3 Sep 1909) and Wilfred (born Providence, Rhode Island, 10 May 1918) but the trail has gone cold there. I already knew that Joseph had returned to Ireland but have now found out that he was married to Mary Elizabeth (again surname unknown) but so far I have made no progress in tracing Samuel. I know that this is a lot of information but if someone can fill in any more of the blanks for me I would be grateful. Thanks Mary

Please help! I cannot find Elizabeth Carson, daughter of Robert Return Carson and his wife (whose name I can't remember). Elizabeth was born in Henry Co TN in the mid-1800s and her mother died there in the 1860s. (She is buried in the Carson Family Cemetery in/near Conyersville.) Elizabeth's maternal aunt, Margaret Amanda HOPE, widow of Adam Hope, then md. Elizabeth's father Robert CARSON after the Civil War and the family left TN for TX, but eventually settled in Gravette, Benton Co. AR. I cannot find out what happened to Elizabeth. Did she die or marry in AR? Is there a grave there for a young Elizabeth Carson? A marriage certificate or license? I think she was in the 1870 census there with the family but not in 1880 on. Appreciate any help. Thanks. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

Thanks for your reply, I did not know of the Rosanna Mc Culley/William Carson. I will keep this info and try to connect to my line. The Margaret Jane Carson m. to Robert McCauley I believe is an assumption by some folks. The marriage record says only Jane Carson married Robert McCauley, however, apparently she died possibly as early as 10 /15 years after their marriage in 1794 and he married a Margaret Gandy (Gandy was her previous married name I do have a maiden name for her in my files) there were chldren named after this marriage Margaret and Harvey McCauley. I believe people just assumed this Margaret was the name of the original first wife's first name. Jackie
Message board postings say that Margaret Jane Carson married Robert McCauley in Augusta VA 1794. I've seen deeds/tax lists with Isaac Carson in Augusta VA. That's all I have. As a sidenote, Rosannah McCully married William Carson 05 Sep 1816 Blount TN. Some of the Carsons in Washington/August VA and Washington TN are believed to connect. Washington TN later became Greene, Jefferson, Blount, Sevier, etc., and it's right next to VA. Gary
Do you have any information about an Isaac Carson and his wife Rebecca Hogshead Carson of Augusta Co. Va. in the mid 1700's? I am interested in a daughter he has listed Jane Carson ---did Jane marry Robert McCauley in 1796 in Augusta Co? Thanks Jackie

The William Carson in Rowan/Iredell NC (wife Eleanor McDuff) had an oldest son Lindsey born 1754 (father of Kit), so this William's dob is probably around 1730. There is no direct evidence they had 18 children. Some family trees I've seen post "children" that are not theirs. A William Carson who died 1759 Rowan had a cousin William as his executor and mentions a brother Robert, wife Marian, and daughter Susanna (under age). This William is likely a couson of William, father of Lindsey.
