Author: gkcarson Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carson/2854.1.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Linda, You can email me direct at gkcarson@aol.com to compare findings. There are Robert Carson individuals in 1840 Indiana in Vanderburgh and Clinton counties (2 there). Are one of those yours? Franklin Co PA was formed in 1784 from Cumberland Co. Do you have any clue as to which townships they were in in Franklin Co? I have a lot of notes although I have them typed under Cumberland Co because Franklin had not yet been formed (my research focused prior to 1784 mostly). We need to figure out which townships ended up as part of Franklin when it was split off in 1784. My Robert Carson line was in Lancaster and Cumberland counties 1750-1770s (used first names Robert, David, Moses, Alexander, James, Andrew, William, John, Samuel). A Robert Carson who died 1760 Cumberland PA was somehow related. A cluster went to Orange Co NC then migrated west and southwest into other areas (TN GA SC AL). I think some cousins or branches remained in PA. Descendants of a YDNA connecting Robert Carson (born 1717 died 1780s) line in Chester and Cumberland PA went west to OH. He had a son named David and grandson named Robert (I probably mentioned that earlier). Thanks, Gary Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: LindaTracy99 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carson/2854.1.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, Gary and THANKS! I am excited that we may have a connection. My Carson sibs Sarah Jane and Robert are b Franklin Co PA. A 3rd sib is Ellener, b Franklin Co abt 1815. I think their mother is Catharine, prob nee McCutcheon, b abt 1795 in either Franklin, Washington or Westmoreland Co PA. On the 1850 Franklin Co Census Catharine is shown as head of household and Ellener as insane. No husband/father is shown. Robert went to Wabash Co IN in late 1840s, md1)McCutcheon and 2)Comstock; he had a store in Liberty Mills, Wabash Co. Catharine, Sarah Jane and Ellener went to Lib Mills int he late 1850s. Sarah Jane kept house for soon-to-be-widowed Reuben Abbott, whom she md in 1866. I have some of Sarah Jane's furniture which I use daily, so she's special to me. For more than 20 years I have been seeking Robert/Sarah Jane/Ellener's father. My mother's notes say Sarah Jane was "disappointed in love" and sent from Franklin Co PA to Wabash Co IN to work in brother Robt's store. But because I haven't been able to find the father in this group, I think there's more to this story. I have Sarah Jane's obit but it doesn't say whether she and Catharine and Ellener went directly from Franklin Co PA to Wabash Co IN. Nor does it mention anything about her father. Any info you may have will be greatly appreciate, and, of course, I'll be most happy to share any information I have. Did your branch of the Carsons end up in the Carolinas? 1. [CARSON] James Blane Carson Mystery Disappearance
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: cindymccloe Surnames: Carson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carson/2856/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm hoping the ancestry.com community can help me solve this mystery. My Grandfather, James Blane Carson disappeared in December 1930 at the age of 39. He was last known to be in eastern Oregon where he was possibly working as a carpenter. His family, who lived near Portland, Or, searched for him without success. It's possible that he may have been the unidentified victim of a fatal accident or foul play, but it seems more likely that he abandoned his family (his wife, Erma and 7 children), since Erma filed for divorce in 1944 listing "abandonment" as the reason for the divorce instead of having him declared legally dead. If he did abandon the family he most likely began using a different name and probably moved to a different state, but would probably still have worked as a carpenter. He also may have continued to use some of his vital information such as his correct date & place of birth. He was born Dec 23, 1891 in Enterprise, Illinois. His father was Frank Ellsworth Cars! on and his mother was Melissa Hershey Carson. Since he disappeared before the implementation of Social Security, there would be no record of the continued use of a SSN or SS death information. I have searched ancestry.com and the internet for records after 1930 for James Blane Carson and other name variations but haven't found anything yet that matches his profile. My father is the youngest of James' 7 children and only 8 months old when he disappeared so he has no memory of it, only what he was told. James' and his disappearance were something that was rarely talked about, especially to Erma, and anyone who might have more details has passed away. I realize it's a long shot since it was much easier to disappear without leaving a paper trail back in 1930, but I'd really like to be able to tell my Dad what happened to his father. Author: gkcarson Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carson/2854.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Linda, I have findings from PA including Franklin and Cumberland counties in PA. Most of the findings so far show that these these families there prior to 1800 were related. The YDNA results match although the paper trails are unclear as to the common ancestor. Some branches went due west to OH/IN and beyond and others went to the Carolinas. Some in the Carolinas and TN moved to OH later and elsewhere. There were Robert Carson lines in Chester PA, Lancaster Co PA and Cumberland Co PA that all connect to my Carson line via YDNA results. I descend from a Robert Carson born c1730 in Lancaster PA who moved south to NC. A descendant of Robert Carson born 1717 in Chester/Cumberland Co PA is a close YDNA match. That Robert had a son named David Carson and a grandson named Robert Carson (who ends up in OH). A William Carson and Thomas Carson line in PA 1730s/1750s also connect via YDNA results to my Carson line (haven't connected the paper trails yet). In which counties in IN were your Robert Carson born 1828 PA and his sister Sarah Jane Carson born 1834? Gary Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
