Ann and Rachel both pre-deceased David and are mentioned in his will in reference to their children receiving 1/7th of his estate. I have transcribed the will and would be happy to send it to anyone who asks (cannot post a PDF file here) I would love to know the name of David's first wife and where it might be documented. Any clue? I believe he married Elizabeth Beaty/Beatty in 1784 in Philadelphia, but what of the mother of Robert, James, George, and Mary Ann?? I believe that Elizabeth is the mother of Hiram, Rachel, and David. On another note, the 1746 date for David is probably incorrect, even though it appears on his grave site at Forks of the Brandywine. More commonly accepted seems to be a 1741 date, which also makes his parentage of Robert in 1762 more timely. Another descendant I have corresponded with confirms that her discussion with the sexton at Forks of the Brandywine shed some doubt on the 1746 date. Mary b. 1806 is a surprise! Any more info on her? Did she marry and have children? Love to share notes... Debi Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am fairly certain that your Zachariah Carson is the son of Robert Carson b. 7 May 1762 and wife Margaret [perhaps Bates, but no conclusive evidence at this point]. If so, he had siblings Samuel S., Andrew, John, George Wesley, Margaret, and Hannah. My husband is a descendant of Samuel S. Carson and wife Elizabeth Willoughby. I have also worked with another researcher, whose husband is alos a descendant of Robert & Margaret. We have been looking for info on Zachariah, his whereabouts, and family. Have info to share if you are still interested. Debi C. Bristol, RI Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My ancestor Robert Carson born c1730 married Margaret Woods 1755 in Lancaster/Paxtang PC, then they moved to NC (I descend from their son David Carson born c1760). Some other Carson lines out of PA and SC are exact matches. I'm fairly certain that my Robert 1730 was not a son of your older Robert 1717 because in his will your Robert said David was his only son, and my Robert I think was still alive. A Robert Carson dec'd 1760 Cumberland Co PA connects somehow to my Robert. Your Robert almost has to be at least a cousin of my Robert's father, if not a brother (based on the close YDNA matches). Author: RootsLilla Surnames: Carson, Wood Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carson/2863.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Family lore says that Robert b. 1716 came to the US when he was about 17. So, it is likely that he married Rachel (maiden name??) here in the US. She is mentioned in his will, as are his son and four daughters. David was apparently married twice. I have some fairly good evidence that he married Elizabeth Beaty in 1784. But, his older children - including my husband's ancestor Robert b. 1762 - must have had a different mother. So, I am busily seeking out such evidence. What does the 1786 reference mean? I am not sure I understand the significance of "F&B". Thanks, Gary. I appreciate your insight. Glad to share what I know if you would find it helpful. I am sure you will enjoy the attached. Debi Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Marybeth ================================================ Sent: Tue, May 31, 2011 1:51 am Subject: Carson - Woods - Hannah - Strain - Ritchey surnames in Ireland I'm sending this to various researchers connected to these names. I found a major cluster of surnames at First Killyleigh Presbyterian Church 1690-1750 that later show up as neighbors and intermarry in PA, VA, NC and/or TN. Some branches end up in OH, IN, IL, KY, and SC. Please look through these findings (below) and see if you notice anything. It seems to me highly possible that these were the ancestors of the connecting families in PA, NC and TN.
