The test was helpful to me in sorting out my Carson paternal line (originated in PA) as to which other lines are closely related and which ones are not. In some cases there were unrelated Carson families in the same area (gets confusing). Here's a link to the results of participants so far (they list the earliest ancestor in most cases). 3. Hello, Although I have not yet had my DNA test done - can't seem to get my father to stop procrastinating about it - I do have documentation that my family are lowland Scots of Ayrshire, who came from Ireland in 1801. It is assumed that they are from Northern Ireland. They were Presbyterians whose descendents belonged to the Orange lodge. When I spoke to the people at the LDS family history center in my area about further research to find out where they came from in Ireland, the LDS volunteers laughed and said "Good luck". Without any detailed information, they said I would have to go through every individual parish in all of Northern Ireland by hand and read all of the records looking for mine. Sooooo....no further progress in that direction. Does anyone have any more encouraging suggestions? Below are the pertinent ancestors: Robert Carson, born in Ireland, married Mary Neil, presumably in Ireland. He was linen weaver. They were living on Sandbed Street in Kilmarnock when their son John Carson was born in 1803. John had two wives: 1) Christine (Christina) Miller (Millar), who he married in 1827. and 2) Agnes McJanet, who he married in 1837, Christina having died in 1836. I have much more information if anyone recognizes these people. John and all his descendents were coal miners. I would appreciate any help that would enable me to go back further. Thank you. Author: sbrackett67 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carson/2889.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have done research on this family. I do not know who the parents of James Carson are. I do know that Mary A. Carson was Mary A. Gilmore when James Carson married her. Mary was the widow of Stephen Gilmore. He died in Greene Co., MO, in 1864/1865. When James Carson married Mary Gilmore, she brought several children to the marriage with the last name of Gilmore. Mary's maiden name was Wardlow or Wadlow. You can find Stephen Gilmore and Mary A. Wadlow/Wardlow in RootsWeb or Ancestry.com. I can give you information on Armsted Carson, if you are interested. I personally know a cousin of yours. He and his wife live in Oregon. He descends from the Thomas C. Carson that is listed in the 1870 Federal Census. James and Mary Carson moved to Erath Co., TX. They might have died in Erath Co.. The son they were living with moved to another county in Texas, Palo Pinto possibly. James and Mary Carson were not in the household of their son in the 1910 Federal Census. I hope this helps.
