My grandfather, George Gordon Meade Carson, was born to Alexander and Rachel (McCrea) Carson on 7/16/1885. Rachel McCrea was from Canada and was born to James McCrea and Jane Kniblock, sister of Ruth. I have fairly complete information post my grandfather and spotty information prior to him. 3. Andrew is the father of Andrew W.(Washington). Andrew W. does have a son named John, but he was not born until about 1838. Andrew W. Carson moved to Henry County, TN. His father, Andrew, added a codicil to his will so that the slaves originally willed to Andrew W. would stay in Iredell and not divide the families. A DNA test has been done on a male descendant of Andrew W Carson. We match a DNA test done on a great-grandson of Kit Carson. The test does not match any other Carson's on the FTDNA Carson project. 2. In my notes William Carson receiving a 1761 grant in Rowan NC (Iredell Co later) for 692a. In the 1778 tax list, Lindsey Carson has 302a, and in the 1784 tax list he has 390a. In 1784, Lindsey Carson "eldest son and heir of William Carson" sells 310a on 3rd Ck "part of 692a grant to William Carson 1761." I don't have notes on any other Carson deeds selling part of William Carson's land. Gary In a message dated 11/19/2011 8:01:10 A.M. 1. Re: [CARSON] William in Iredell 1820
    2. Hi Josette, In the Iredell will index (2 pg 90) is a William Carson will in 1827, listing Rebecca R. Carson et al. In 1807 Iredell, Samuel Carson's estate buyers were Margaret Carson Sr, Margaret Carson Jr, David Carson, Andrew Carson, Mary Carson, Martha Carson and William Carson, John Thompson, David Black, John McGee, Reuben Phillips, Michael Wilson, James Guyor Gery Jr, William Brown, inventory by Margaret Carson (received widow's provisions later) and David Black. This Samuel Carson had been in Surry County 1790 then was back in Iredell on the 1800 tax list with 400a. His estate is listed in 1815 in Capt Thompson's distrcit, nest to Robert Carson Jr (son of Robert Carson Sr dec'd 1799 Iredell) and James and William Bogle. Nearby is Henry Carson, John Elder and others connected to Robert Carson. I think he was the Samuel Carson 1787 Burke NC next to Alexander Carson at south end of Mt Pleasant next to Robert Bogle. Samuel and Robert Carson were on a road crew 1796 together. He witnessed Robert Carson Sr's 1798 will in Iredell along with Samuel Mans'd Carson. Robert's will lists wife Elizabeth (Elizabeth Patterson widow of Henry Patterson married Robert Carson Sr 1780s), daughter Mary Elder and son Robert Carson. In 1799 Robert Carson Jr gets land adj Samuel Carson, Borbert Bogle and others on spur of Mt Pleasant. In 1815 Iredell, William Carson had 135a in Capt Moody's district (same page included Andrew Carson and Christopher Houston along with Patterson, Owens and other names. In 1836 Andrew Carson's will lists children Mary Anderson wife of Samuel Anderson, Nancy Caroline Cowles wife of Josiah Cowles, Robert Carson, William Carson dec'd, Andrew Washington Carson, Alfred G., grandson of Andrew Carson Cowles, wit. John Wright, Miles Wilcox. The William in 1820 Iredell may be the one dec'd 1826. In 1799 Iredell was a Robert Carson Esq in Capt Robert Carson's company. In 1800, one Robert Carson has 400a and 300a. In 1815 Robert Jr just has a poll tx and no land and he is next to Samuel Carson's estate. Gary In a message dated 11/18/2011 10:20:50 A.M. So - with time maybe something will connect. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. A descendant of a presumed uncle of Kit Carson did the YDNA test. The results would show any biological paternal connectsion to this presumed uncle (and/or other Carson lineages). As you noted, almost every Carson family has a legend of being related to the famous scout, Kit Carson (Christopher Houston Carson). Kit's father Lindsey Carson was born 1750s in Rowan/Iredell Co NC (son of a William Carson there) and then moved to KY with his apparent brother Robert (they married sisters) and was later in MO. Other siblings of Lindsey Carson are (in my opinion) somewhat nebulous as to direct evidence. Gary Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My grandmother constantly talked about her father (John Gay Carson) saying that we were related to Kit Carson (I know - lots of Carsons think this) but I heard about it so often, then upon seeing a picture of Kit in Taos, my mother was quite shocked at how much my great uncle resembled him. So - for this very thin reason - I do believe that James is in the same lineage that Kit was. But there are so many directions that line goes, it is taking lots of patience to wade through it. I have two Federal Census records I would like you to check out. They can both be found on Ancestry.com. The 1850 Federal Census: Type in William Ward. He was living in District 71,Polk,MO. His wife's name was Hannah. A James Carson (age 20) was living in the household. In the 1860 Federal Census: Type in James Carson. He was living in Ozark,Lawrence,MO. His wife's name was Hannah. Armstead L Carson was seven years of age. Also living in the household were Francis M. Ward (age 18) and Martha E. Ward (age 16). I believe that the James Carson in the above two census records is the same James Carson who is listed in the 1870 Federal Census. Do you have any suggestions on how to go about finding the parents of James Carson? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
