The early Carsons are confusing to me, also. You can try her direct email again by spelling Josette with two T's. Part of what makes it confusing for me is that Walter, son of Samuel Carson and Jane Patterson, grew up in Chester Co., Pa., moved to New Castle Co., Del., then to Cecil Co., Md. Then his son John moved to Ohio and Walter's son Walter is said to have moved to New York. But I've not found any records for the junior Walter in New York, so don't know what really happened to him. It is also doesn't help that besides your Walter who married an Agnes (Hare/Hair), there was another Walter Carson who married another Agnes and it gets all fuzzy with all the similar individual's names and couples' names, etc. Dan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Thanks for the info on the Ireland research. Unfortunately, I'm looking for Carsons late 1600s/early 1700s. The only one of interest is Samuel m. Mary Agnew died 1742. Do you have the passenger lst for the 1729 arrival Annapolis MC? That would be the year that Walter Carson arrived in the US. Below are my N. Ireland research findings on Carson and select surnames that connect or may connect to my Carson line out of PA. I haven't found a "Walter" first name. There was a heavy Carson concentration in the County Down parishes in the Ards Peninsula/Strangford Lake vicinity (Ballyphilip in Portaferry, Killyleigh, Downpatrick). County Down also had other surnames that intermarried with these Carson lines in PA: Woods, Strain/Strean/Strahan, Hannah, Bell, Richey, Cuthbertson, Maxwell, etc. First Presbyterian in Belfast (Counties Down and Antrim) 1690s-1730s had surnames that connecting with these Carson lines such as Harbison, Ballentine, Blair/Blear, and Patterson. The challenge is that there is no paper trail to link them from Ireland County Down or Antrim to PA or other locations even though the names are similar. Author: DanielTroublefield Surnames: Carson, McCullough, Thompson Classification: will Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carson/2914/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This William Carson Sr. was the son of Samuel Carson and Jane Patterson Carson of Londongrove, Chester, Pennsylvania. William was a brother of my ancestor Elizabeth Carson, wife of Abraham McCarter (McArthur). William died before 1 July 1811 when his will was proved. Little seems to be known about some of his children. I didn't know before transcribing these papers that William's and Susannah's daughter Rebecca Carson married a William Thompson (Tompson in the will). More information is known about two of William's daughters Mary and Susannah (Junior) than about the others. I'd like to know more about the other children: Francis, William Jr., Martha McCullough, and Samuel. Mary & Susannah moved to Georgia (Clarke County). Did any of the others move there, too? Is it still possible to get a copy of the "History of Little Pine Valley" by Harry Stephenson, Sr. that you mention? I believe I am a descendant of this line of these Carsons. My great, great grandfather is Edward Carson, born in Ohio. His daughter, Lydia Carson, with his second wife, Edmonia Whitaker is my great grandmother, and my grandfather is Johnie Edward Carson. My grandfather was born out of wedlock and retained his mother's maiden name of Carson. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Judging from the will of Samuel, probated 1766, the family was quite well off. So it might have required John to be in the U.S. to build that up. However, it may have just been good fortune. The Dickersons from Cadiz, OH are no relation. My maternal grandfataher was born near Cadiz, OH in 1842. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Samuel m. Jane Patterson and Walter Carson m. Agness both came to the US most probably from Ireland. Samuel was here by 1725 on tax list and Walter same city by 1729. They are blood relatives (documented) but whether cousins or brothers I do not know. They have virtually identical names for their children. I descend from Agness, daughter of Walter and Agness who married Henry Maxwell. The lady who knew everything about the Carsons in Harrison County unfortunately died last year and I've no idea what happened to her genealogy records. Her name was Betty Carson, lived in OK, so if you see her posts, they're correct. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
