The one that came from Ireland was a William and he died in Chillicothe, Ohio in 1819. His son, William, was born in PA in 1776 and I think their move to Ohio wasn't very long after he was born. So I don't think we were the Carsons that you are hunting for, but we are probably cousins from one of our first Williams to arrive since he had two other brothers with him. I don't think the Carsons "huddled" together like many families did, they seemed to head out in their own direction in search of land. But for what it's worth, my brother did the Y-DNA test and we were in the R1b1a2 Haplogroup. Since most of the Carsons who came into America from Ireland about that time period started in PA....chances are pretty good that that your line will probably be in the R group...but I hope a direct ! line male from your line will take the Y-DNA test and let the rest of us know what you find out. Carson Listers: Can anyone help me identify ie establish a family group sheet and better dates for: Robert Carson of Dromalagh, Strabane, North Ireland ca 1675...also associated with Hugh Davey, Jr. I know he had sons Samuel and Andrew and son-in-law Rev John Maxwell (died 1763) his wife is Rose Carson and son-in-law Robert Barclay wife is UNKNOWN daughter of Robert (Barclays were linen merchants with bleach greens near Strabane) I believe the father Robert and probably sons Samuel and Andrew were prominent merchants in Baltimore (business partner with Mr Mitchel) and may also have traded in the Charleston, Cecil Co, Md and Reading, Penn area. James Carson Sr. (from "Dillinghams of Big Ivy, Buncombe Co,Nc" family book) died between 1824 and 1830. Father of William Carson b. aug,1793 - d. aug,1846... Book doesn't say wheen he was born just when he died. The best I can tell from other forums his father was most likely a William. My guess is they were of the PA Carsons. Anyway, I was just wanting our Haplogroup if anyone had it done. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. George Gordon Meade Carson (my grandfather and son of Alexander and Rachel) married Blanche Stockberger and had children: - Alexander Gordon Carson (my uncle who compiled a family tree) married Margret Dietrich. They had tree children. - Blanche Virginia Carson who married Wiliam Faragher and had one child. - George Donald Carson married Bernice Evelyn Stow and had three children (including me). - Frederick William Carson married Elizabeth Nield Thomas (the only surviving member of this generation) and had three children. The Donald you reference was my father. The Betty you mention was probably Elizabeth Thomas who is called Betty. Frederick William called Bill seems to have been obmitted in translation. Many of the unnamed children above are now grandparents. I have a list of all of this, but it may be more detail than you desire since the line you are following flow from William (brother of Alexander)and Mary Krisher. My father-in-law is a Carson, and he is my husband's step-father, so research is a little more complicated than researching one's own bloodlines. LOL What I know about Samuel is contained in my first post in this thread. Most of it was given to me by my father-in-law, who in turn was given the info by another family member. The passenger record info I found myself. I found the rest of my info about Samuel and Ruth's descendents in census records, Philadelphia city birth/death records and marriage indices, WW1 draft registrations, newspaper death notices, and a couple of other online sources. I'd be happy to share any documentation, if you're interested. I found Jane M's death return, which provided the following info: name of deceased: Jane M. Carson color: white sex: female age: 22 months married or single: single date of death: July 8 cause of death: meningitis place of birth: Philadelphia name of father: Alexander Carson name of mother: Rachel Carson ward: 19 street and number: 2254 Howard date of burial: July 11th 1881 place of burial: K of P Greenwood Cemetery I also have photocopies of death returns for her siblings, George Washington and William Samuel, as well as (father) Alexander's. I have a copy of a letter dated January 26 1980 written to my father-in-law's father by a woman named Ruth. I'm going on the assumption that it was written by his sister, Ruth Carson Lang. In the letter, she referenced a Blanche Carson and her brother, Alex, whose wife was named Marge. He was compiling a family tree at the time. Their father's name was George, and two other siblings were Donald and Betty. I have no idea who these people are, since the names aren't in my database, and how they connect to the Carson line. I'll be seeing my father-in-law on Saturday and plan to ask him if he knows. As a side note, Ruth wrote: "I remember being told they [Samuel and Ruth] came from Ireland. Had a shoe store at Carson's Corner. I think they came from County Monahagn [sic]." If the shoe store was in Ireland, as the above seems to indicate, it may help locate the village they were from. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. -Marie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: mccabqnm Surnames: Carson, McCrea Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carson/2738.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The maiden names of Ruth (Kniblock) and Rachel (McCrea) came from a family tree date unknown. A copy of this tree was given to me by my uncle (Alexander G. Carson). It my have been given to my grandfather (George Gordon Meade Carson) by Herb(ert) McCrea in 1920?. This tree mainly addresses the lineage of the McCrea family starting with James McCrea and Jane Kniblock. It records that one of their children was Rachel McCrea who married Alexander Carson and produced the children you noted. My list of their children does not include Jane M., lists William Samuel as Samuel, and my grandfather's full name was George Gordon Meade Carson. Some of these names probably were the result of Alexander Carson serving in the civil war. My cousin has his discharge certificate signed (probably autosigned) by President Lincoln. This tree also records that Jane Kniblock's sister Ruth married Samuel Carson. It notes the Jane and Ruth's parents were a Kniblock and a McCullough. It also traces the lineage of other of the children of James McCrea and Jane Kniblock. I seem to recall talk of and meeting my grandfather's brothers Walter and David when I was a boy. I do have some marriage information for Alexander's siblings and for his children in addition to my grandfather. This partial information matches the information you earlier provided. I would be interested in any information you have found predating Samuel(b 1795). I have only dabbled in this Carson ancestry. My uncle started more serious research that was then assumed by his son and then his son. I hope to acquire the results of their efforts.
