    1. Re: Sorting out several David Carsons in eastern TN 1787 - 1800
    2. Josette L. Maxwell
    3. I did a lot of work trying to sort out the early Carsons in NC awhile back. There was a David Carson m. Sarah (her name on deed 1781 Caswell Ct. NC). Had a land grant in 1778 adjoing land of William Carson and John Rainey, with Samuel Woods as a witness. In 1781, David and wife Sarah "of Washington County VA" deeded land to Samuel Woods. David Carson of Washington County NC 1784 deeded land to Nathaniel Melone. Of interest is that there was a David Carson who married Sarah Woods Oct 9, 1753 in Lancaster County (part which became Dauphin Ct.) according to an LDS record, but unable to find any documentation. There was a David Carson Rowan County 1762 Tax List. There is a David Carson will 1799, naming son James Carson. David Carson is on Tax List TN 1791/92 Greene Ct. David Carson m. Mary Burke 26 Apr 1794 (marriage record Washington Ct.) I have a note (source unknown) which says James McCord's wife believed to be a Carson. Daughers married sons of David Carson who fought at Kings Mt. Marriage record Wash. Ct. for John McCord and Mary Carson 6 Dec 1796 plus a David McCord m. Susana Carson 27 May 1792. Court of Common Quarters Washington Ct. 1788 David Carson listed. 1789 David Carson and David Carson Jr. listed. David Carson administrator of will of William Carson 1790 Washington County. That's all I have on David Carson. I've got a William Carson somewhere in the Carolinas by 1783 (a letter we have). He migrated down from Franklin Ct. PA (brother John Carson ends up in Rutherford NC and brother Walter Carson in York SC). I do have a few Carson families documented NC/TN from wills etc. but it is a mess because there isn't sufficient documentation to establish connections to other Carsons. You do have to be careful about the county designation and even state designation because they changed often. Also, everyone in the world claims to be related to the Kit Carson family. Lots of bogus genealogy. Would love to have copies of any information you've documented establishing Carson families. His father was John, imigrated from Ireland mid 1700's, first to S. Carolina and then to Kentucky. James was born in SC 1784, married first wife, Nancy Phillips in KY, 1811. Moved to Fountain Co., IN c1824. Had 8 children w/ her - she died 1835. Married Eiliza Brumsey 1838, had 3 children w/ her the last one being Hency Clay, b. 1842 (my G-Grandfather). Moved to Livingstone Co., IL about 1843. Died there 1847. There were quite a few Carson's that came to what became the US in the middle 1700's. One reference I'd suggest is " Carson - Bent - Boggs Genealogy", compliled by Quantrillle D McClung, Denver Public Library, 1962. You might be able to get it on Interbirary loan. There is a reference to David Carson, b 1832, Ohio, lived in Michigan.(Father, John, Sr., b. Penn., 1774). We have more but that is about it on what you asked about. If you have more, we are always glad to add to what we have. Thanks for the contact. PS - I was born in Ind. but now live in CA Ed

I have 1828 as James' year of birth because it is listed like that in the Census and I don't have his birth record so left it as is... I'm quite sure its an error but I like to follow records. And yes, the younger William Carson was the son of James R. Carson and Mary Booth.

Armacinda Yeakley b. 1865 To make this even more of a mystry, there are perhaps 20 or more decendents of the Dittemore & Yeakley family that they have passed down the name Carson and I still can't figure out just where it came from. I also have a Cotter family that it is the samething in. All three of these families married back and forth into each other and frankly, I think the Carson family did too. There is also an Elizabeth Carson b. 1805 that married Henry Sandy. Do you know of anyone that is doing a Carson family tree covering all the lines they could find? I really really want to find them and their history even though it does not really relate to me. They just seemed to be a very important part of all these tree's. Linda

Then he moved on to Fayette County, IL. He tended to move in conjunction with relatives. We believe his father may have been Henry Carson. Does any of this sound familiar? Frances Powell
