I am skeptical that the Samuel Carson of York Co., PA is the brother of William Carson of Rowen Co., NC. The supplement for McClungs book (3 times larger than the original) mentions a (1753?)NC will for a William Carson, who mentions his "cuzin" William Carson as well as a Samuel Carson both of Rowen County, NC. The will mentions several others including a brother Robert and wife and daughters. I find it difficult to beleive Samuel of York PA and Samuel of Rowen NC are the same individual. Of course the "cuzin" William Carson of Rowen NC is the grandfather of Kit. Not to ad insult to injury but I have never seen a proof that Kit's granfther William is related to Alexander Harvey Carson...in fact I haven't seen any proof Alex exists. Please prove me wrong!

    3. I spent a good deal of time sorting out Carsons in PA before the Rev War. Would be most interested in sharing information with you. What I've done is work exclusively form documentataion to establish the Carsons. Tried to get people on the Carson list to participate by contributing whatever proofs/documents they might have about early Carsons but not much interest in doing so. Most just make assumptions about relationships. Walter Carson who is first in Chester Ct. then what became Adams Ct. by early 1740s is my direct ancestor. He shows up in the Tax records for Chester Ct. 1729. In that same city is Samuel Carson m. Jane Patterson. We have a letter which establishes Walter and Samuel as blood relatives, though whether brothers or cousins is unknown. Walter Carson had two sons (William and John) who move to NC by 1783. We believe that he had a third son, Walter Carson, who married a daughter of Samuel Carson and ended up in York Ct. SC. Their daughter Agness married Henry Maxwell. Family lore says they were first cousins, but there is absolutely nothing to establish that relationship. Henry comes to the US after them, born 1726-1734. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DiH.2ACEB/1719.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Jerry, I've started doing research at the genealogy library to sort out the multiple David Carsons and others in PA. What I've found is there were multiple David Carsons in York, Lancaster, Dauphin and Cumberland PA and even more Williams, Johns, Samuels, Roberts, and others in the 1740-1780 timeframe in those counties. Researching county by county in PA, I've found perhaps several of each by the 1750s. By the 1780s, there were maybe 10 to 20 of each. I've noticed that multiple families of Carsons have claimed the same ancestor based on a name in the Chester and York Carson wills, unaware there were multiple individuals with that name. I also noticed that some have plugged in their descendants on family trees with dates and locations that could not possibly match, given the findings in PA. As a result, most of the online Carson family trees I've seen are now messed up. In Lancaster PA I found an older David Carson who had daughters Margaret and Mary born 1754-56. A David Carson was on the Dauphin tax roll in 1750. In York Cumberland township a David is on the tax list in 1779. A David Carson is in Cumberland in 1778 in Tyrone township then appears to died with Sarah widow listed and another David next door in 1779, possibly his son. A David was in the Cumberland PA militia. A David married in 1784 and another David married in 1785 in Philadelphia. A David Carson is in the 1762 Adams PA tax list. David Carson is listed as an heir of John Linn Carson in 1762 in the Minallen township. There was another David Carson who escaped from the jail in the 1770s timeframe and disappears. There were a David Carson in eastern TN in 1787 then 5 years later there were 5 Davids or age in Washington and Greene counties. I guess the conclusion is there are multiple individuals in PA who could be ancestors in addition to those who left wills in York and Chester. This will take more research. I've narrowed the possibilities down (at least for my David's parents in eastern TN) and will post more details when they are known as to which PA ancestors he connects to. What documentation has been used to show your David was a son of the York Samuel? Thanks, Gary

My ancestor is the David Carson (b. 1741?) of Abingdon, Washington Co., VA whose children migrated to Rockcastle County, Kentucky. (For an overview, go to www.theRadkes.com and click on Carson Family Reunion.) There are a number of Carson family researchers who believe that this David is the son of the Samuel Carson who left a will in 1752 in York County, Pennsylvania. ("Kentucky Pioneers & their Descendants" compiled by Ila Earle Fowler, York Co. PA Will Book A, page 216. This assumption is made in the "Carson-Bent-Boggs Genealogy, Supplement." by McClung, page 143 and page 280) Other Carson researchers believe that the David Carson mentioned in the York County PA Will was the David Carson of Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania who married Susanna McBride, the daughter of Andrew McBride. I have not spent much time studying the Carsons in PA, but from time to time I run across something and save it. Please make you findings public. Jerry Radke Harrisburg, PA
