Hi List, Yes, Lura has graciously agreed to assume the Administration of this CARROLL-DNA List. Thank you, Lura.. When I started this List, it was to augment the Carroll Surname Y-DNA Project at FTDNA, (Family Tree DNA) specifically to provide a place for our Carroll genealogies, or family trees, which is awkward at FTDNA. No room for long lines of data..... http://www.childtalk.com/History/carrollfamilydna.html is Kevin Carroll's surname site. He also is the Administrator of the Carroll Y-DNA Project at FTDNA, at http://www.familytreedna.com/(pse4buu3n05nu0q1m2ub4x55)/public/carroll/index .aspx with over 50 tested Carroll males. All Carroll's with any interest in DNA and genealogy should visit those sites. In my personal genealogy, my mother was Edith Carroll, presumably related to Charles Carroll of Carrollton. A little excavation and Y-DNA testing has disproved that theory completely. My Carroll's are neither descended from this Charles, nor are we even Irish. Our Carroll / Carrel seems more an Anglicized version of a Czech or Slovak surname. And we are the only Haplogroup R1a in these Carroll projects. Most of you test as R1b... Good Luck to you all..... Good Luck Lura... Bob has been interested in genealogy all his life, and did his research the hard way. When I first asked him almost three years ago if he would like to donate his DNA for our family, he was a little unsure. Later he told me he did want to do it and seemed thrilled to be a part of this new way of learning our past. However, he incorporated the fact that he had taken the DNA test in with some of his old information, which may seem to prove something that DNA can't prove. Perhaps I did not do a good job of explaining the information to him. > > I will tell you more about our background later. > Robert Carroll is kit # 32061, and at YSearch.com his ID # is HRYB8. > > Lura CARROLL Southard > [email protected] > This list is adoptable. Lura: My Carroll line comes out of Liverpool, England and enters U.S. through Maine and settles in Massachusetts about 1866. My Great Grandfather was Frank Carroll and was a seaman. Since he left his family to become a ship's cabin boy at age 7, we have no knowledge of relatives in England. We have assumed that his parents came from Ireland, but I have found no proof. Since he was 6'4", it has been suggested that he had Scottish blood (with the Danish influence), but I have met many tall Irishman recently. So Y-DNA is our only hope in breaking down the genealogy wall. My Family Tree DNA kit # is 31491. As of yet, there have been no very close Y-DNA matches with other Carroll's. Yet, what we have determined is that my Carroll line is not an adopted surname and has the Y-DNA of the Carroll's. With the present Y-DNA kit information available, there does appear to be a closer connection (within 300 years) to Carroll's that settled in early America: Carolinas and Virginia. Since early settlers were mostly from Northern Ireland and the close proximity to Liverpool, I at this point am looking at County Down and County Antrim and possibly County Louth as the origination of my Carroll line. Of the five Carroll septs, I am also assuming my line is from the O'Carroll of Oriel in Ulster, descendent of Conn of the Hundred Battles. I do hope that more participants get involved in the Y-DNA project to help narrow down the possibilities. With increasing participation from a broad spectrum of Carroll's, genealogical history of the Carroll septs will be better defined and history beyond the paper trails will be gained for us all. Godspeed! Hi I am Bernadette, and my Carroll's come from Ireland, about 1846. Patrick H. Carroll was born 1810, is my first ancestor and have from him down to myself, but cannot find his family in Tipperary, Ireland or what port of entry he came into the US, possibly SC? He died May 18, 1878 Dubuque, Iowa, was married to Francis Tucker (Vinson) a widow and lived on a plantation in Macon GA till after the Civil War and lived out their lives in Dubuque and Fonda, Iowa. Most of the rest of the Carroll family lived there my Grandfather Zachary Carroll married Minnie Pearl Negus and moved later to San Bernardino. I have not been able to do the DNA testing all the male Carroll's have passed on but one brother, and he will not do it, too much for him to afford. No uncles cousins left or really other Carroll family members alive that know anything on the past now. My brick wall is Patrick Carroll's mother father sisters brothers and where for sure he came from in Ireland. Tipperary is something others (past cousins) researching him have found out. I know only from when he showed up in Macon, GA and on from there to myself. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Carrroll" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Cc: "Carroll-l" <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, September 06, 2007 9:19 AM Subject: [CARROLL] [CARROLL-DNA] New Administrator for Mail list > Lura: > > My Carroll line comes out of Liverpool, England and enters U.S. through > Maine and settles in Massachusetts about 1866.
