The folks at the NC Library were kind enough to send me information on the family of Benjamin Carroll of Orange County, NC. This has a wonderful outline and some Will informaion. I am specifically looking for those related to Archibald Carroll, son of Benjamin Carroll and Nancy Peeler whom married January 13, 1786. Their children include Nancy Carroll born 1814 Benjamin Carroll born 1821 Moses Carroll born 1826 Betsey Carroll born 1828 James Carroll born 1836 Archibald Carroll born 1837 Becca Carroll born 1843 Found in records pertaining to my family is the following. John Berry Carroll was born circa 1812 near Raleigh, North Carolina. He married 1) Sarah Ann Shelburne daughter of Silas Shelburne and Margaret Knott. They had issue of their marriage the 2 children . Dated 24 June 1841 and filed 26 Dec. 1846. John Carroll and his wife, Sarah Ann, sold Sabine River land to Hugh P. Dear. (Conveyance Bk A, p. 294) The following information on John Carroll was found at the Historical Museum in Marshall, Harrison County, Texas. It was written by his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Montgomery that married his son Daniel from a second marriage. The Carroll family is of Irish ancestry, the name being formerly OCarroll. It is said that and OCarroll was King of Ireland in its early history. "The Carrolls that came to America dropped the O and because of their differences in creed separated. The Carrolls of Baltimore being Catholics. The Protestant branch of the family went to North Carolina. The Gr Grandfather of Daniel Watkins Carroll (would be John Berry Carrolls grfather) owned a farm in three miles of Raleigh N.C. He had several sons: Benjamin, who became a preacher--John and Calvin went to Louisiana. There was also a Moses, which I think proves that the family was great Bible readers and Calvinists. What is most important here is that Benjamin and Moses are listed in the same family and also in the outline above. Would like to hear from anyone associated with this line. Kathy
