    1. [CARROLL] My wife's line of Carroll's

    3. Hi Listers: I am doing research of my wife's family tree. Several branches in my wife's family tree had immigrated to the USA in the mid 1800's. The O'Carroll/Carroll family. This is one of the branches in her family tree that has developed a roadblock. Family lore has it this line was from Ireland, immigrated to America and changed their surname from O'Carroll to Carroll. Her Great Grandfather William Carroll Smith was born on July 16, 1896, in Tennessee. We believe he was from Claiborne County. He was married to Mary Kivette, who was born on August 20, 1889. Her family is my other roadblock. Here is where the mystery begins. Several family members tell of a story about a murder. It's not known if he was involved in the murder or if it was another family member that was involved in the murder. William and Mary moved north and then his siblings moved north. He and his siblings changed their last name to Smith when they moved north. I can not find anything on William and his family prior to the move north. If anyone has information to share, I would appreciate any help. I hope you all enjoy your Independence Day and have a safe one. Erick J. Owens Sr. Monroe, Michigan
