    3. Stedman D Carroll from Carroll County Mississippi served in the Civil War in Captain Stanford's Company, Mississippi Light Artillery. His rank at discharge was "Guidon". Does anyone know what this rank means? In later life he was a medical doctor. Does anyone have a short history of this Regiment? Thanks David Strickland dstrickland@optekinc.com Dallas, TX

    3. David, in my earlier military experience, we referred to the person who marched at the front of the organization and carried the unit or battle flag, the "guidon carrier". That carried no particular rank.
