    1. [CARROLL] RE: Carroll - Ireland>Canada>WI
    2. Dear Kathy: I think this is a long shot. I am looking for James CARROLL [b. 1819, Co. Queens, IR]. I don't know what year he immigrated to US, but I can find him in January1857 in Janesville, Rock Co, WI where he married Jane DUNNIGAN*. It is somewhat apparent that James Carroll had had a prior marriage to ? because he has a daughter, Alice Carroll who was born in Janesville in 1852. By 1860 census, James Carroll/Jane Dunnigan, along with his daughter and their first son John Carroll, b. October1857 in Janesville, have moved to Howard Co, Iowa. [*It has been thought that Jane's surname was DONOVAN, however, the marriage records in St. Patrick's Church in Janesville identify her name as DUNNIGAN. oooooops -- my sister even gave her son the middle name of Donovan!!!] It has always been a puzzle how/why James Carroll was in WI and I have only recently begun exploring the possibility that he may have first immigrated to Canada before he came to America. There is a some possiblity that 'my' James Carroll had a relationship with 'a' Catherine CARROLL, [b. ~1805 in IR] /Daniel HANNIGAN [b. ~1785 in IR], who married ~1820/25 in IR -- but that is unproven speculation at this point. Nothing in your recent posting about your CARROLLs shows any clear connection to 'my' CARROLLs beyond the Wisconsin connection and none of your CARROLLs moved to Iowa. So, I may be ALL wet. I have no credible information that James CARROLL came through Canada, but it seems a logical possibility based on his presence in Wisconsin as early as 1752. I wanted to touch base with you -- just in case. I have just recently returned from a long genealogy research trip and am overwhelmed with information on other family lines that I am busily transcribing and trying to sort into good order. But if there is any possibility that something in this email rings a bell, I would be very happy to 'join forces' so to speak. Look forward to hearing back from you. They were both born in Ireland around 1807-1820 (depending on which census you read) They lived in Hamilton, Ontario Canada 1846-1853. Possibly earlier, but 1846 is when one on the kids was born there. They are on the 1860 Black Earth Township, Dane County WI census and it shows the following children: John 12 born in Hamilton Ontario Canada, Catharine 10, born in Hamilton Ontario Canada, William 8, born in Hamilton Ontario Canada, Mary Ann 7, born in Hamilton Ontario Canada, and then born in WI are Bridget 5, Thomas 4, Michael 2. Maggie was born three years after Michael. In the 1870 census for the same location, some of the kids have 'moved', there is John 23, Bridget 15, thomas 5 and Margaret 2. In the 1880 census, for the same location, Mary is now widowed. John Carroll married Anna Foley and they lived in Southern MN (Owatonna mostly) Catharine "Kate"Carroll married James McGinnity -Waldwick, Iowa County WI (children are Alice and Daniel) William Carroll born abt 1850 in Hamilton Ontario CA, I still don't know anything about except he lived in Madison. Mary Ann Carroll lived with her sister Kate in 1870 census and married James Laverty, also from Waldwick, Iowa County WI Bridget Carrol married Mike White of Prairie du Chien WI Thomas Carroll 1854-1949-2 kids Wm J born 6-19-1886 and Harold 2-16-1901 I think Thomas' wife name is Catherine Maggie Carroll apparently lived single, taking care of her mother in Black Earth Township, Dane County WI. John Roger Carroll and Anna Foley Carroll and their kids lived in southern MN. (Owatonna, Blooming Prairie, Waseca, Rochester, Tracy, Ellendale, St. Paul). Their kids married into the following families: Lynard, O'Leary, Laughlin, Moran, Sullivan, Weiler. I hope this info gives someone a connection out there. We need help finding the rest of the family. :-) Kathy at Kathy.Sullivan@anoka.k12.mn.us or msully@pclink.com

    3. Hi Carol, Thanks for responding to my posting. I copied the others that are researching the same Carrolls as I am. In case they make a connection that I over looked. Right now, I would agree with you. I don't see a connection. However, I have to tell you. Marcia- one of the people I copied on this- Marcia and I replied to each others postings last Oct and did not have enough info to make a connection. It was just over Memorial Weekend this year, with the help of the others that I copied on this, that we put some pieces together and figured out that we are all researching the same Carrolls. So you just never know. I will keep your email on file. Maybe we'll find a connection yet. Good luck with your research, Kathy SVass@aol.com wrote: > Dear Kathy: > I think this is a long shot.
