Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1hH.2ACEB/3505.1.1 Message Board Post: I do not have parents or siblings of Benjamin. I'm trying to determine the parents or siblings of Benjamin as well. He and Frances Rottenberry married in Warren County, NC, on 19 April 1810; the same day as Daniel Rottenberry and Mildred Douglass. Rottenberry was spelled variously at that time and today is Writtenberry. One would suspect Daniel and Frances were siblings. These two families lived near one another in Mecklenburg County, VA. Benjamin Carroll was on a Mecklenburg County tax list for the year 1810. A Benjamin Carroll of Mecklenburg County is also found on a War of 1812 roster. He appears to have died before the 1820 census. His widow, Frances, is found in the 1830-1850 Mecklenburg censuses as Frances or Fanny. In 1850, Frances Carroll is 75 years old, a pauper, and head of household that includes adult females; Mary Carroll, age 39, and Wilmuth Carroll, age 35. Also included are children; Mary, age 13; Julie, age 9; Margaret, age 8; and Martha, age 2. In 1860, Julie Carroll's marriage to Henry Connell (Conner) reports her mother's name, no father, implying Mary to be unmarried. In the 1850 census, a neighbor is Wm. T. Carroll, age 37, with wife, Sally. He may be a son. As well, near is Thomas Cannon, age 62, with his wife, Jane, age 38. They married 29 October 1847 in Mecklenburg County, VA. In their household are three children; Jesse Wade, age 12, William Wade, age 8; and Benjamin Carroll, age 11. Benjamin appears to have been one of Frances Carroll's grandchildren, and of course likely to have been named for his grandfather. Do you have any other information or clues about Benjamin? He probably is connected to the Carrolls of Warren County, NC, but the connection is yet to be discovered. I'd like to hear from you.
