If you put "Needham Carroll" in the search window and do a soundex search, the results bring up any Needham's with a surname that sounds like Carroll. So in other words, the soundex search only brings up the last names. It doesn't search "sounds like" Needham. So here's where you have to get creative...think southern accent, southern drawl and possible Irish accent. I just did that. Here's what I found... 1840 Federal Census- District 356 Twiggs, GA Needham Carroll 1 male under age 5 1 male age 20-30 1 female age 5-10 1 female age 20-30 1850 Federal Census- Town Creek, Brunswick, NC Carrell, Zilphy age 54 b. NC James age 53 b. NC occupation- laborer Needam age 31 b. NC occupation- laborer Mary age 29 b. NC Elender (female) age 18 b. NC Eliza age 4 b. NC Mary age 1 b. NC (Next door was Joel Carroll age 23 b. NC laborer & Elizabeth age 24 b. NC) 1860 Federal Census- Town Creek, Brunswick, NC Carroll, Nedam age 39 b. NC occupation- cooper Zilphy age 63 b.
