    3. Carrol, I have neither an Edward or Thomas. However, I believe if you will give some dates and the places that you know, it will give others a better opportunity to help you. I am sure there are many Thomas and Edward Carrolls, but unless we know which ones might be of an interest to you, there might not be many Carroll researchers who will type all their information to the list. Also, I am interested in the spelling of your first name. Is Carrol a family surname spelling? That is the spelling used on the marriage bond of my Alexander in 1783 and also used for all of the approximately 15 Carrol families living in Sampson County, NC in the first census. Later the spellings changed to Carrell or Carroll. I wonder if those early spellings are important, or if they were just indicative of the educational background of the clerk and census taker. Good luck on finding your Thomas and Edward Carroll. Lura "A Merry Heart doeth good like a medicine." 3. My great grandfather -- John Calvin Carroll -- had ten children. One of the males spelled his name Carroll, the other nine (seven males & two females) all spelled their names Carrel. The decision was more than likely made for them at birth, meaning, I guess, that their father or mother preferred that spelling for some reason. My grandfather once told me that he thought our family name might once have been McCarrel. So far, there is no evidence to indicate that was so.
