    1. [CARROLL] John Wilson Carroll
    2. Doyle Sanders
    3. Looking for the children of William Carroll of North Carolina, possibly of Rutherford County, who fought at the Battle of King's Mountain. Also looking for county birthplace of John Wilson Carroll b. 1793 North Carolina. He may have been born in Rutherford County or Lincoln County. John Wilson Carroll served in the Company of Capt. Twiggs, 8th North Carolina Light Infantry Regiment during the War of 1812. Married Frances "Fanny" Franklin, may be grand niece of Dr. Benjamin Franklin, we aren't certain, however this is part of the family lore. She was born in Virginia according to papers she filed to claim a widows pension and land claim. She and John were married in 1814 and lived in Georgia where their oldest son Elijah Alewine Carroll was born there in 1815, according to his deposition added to her widows claim. John was a fine cabinet maker and carpenter and apparently helped to build homes for the Cherokee before their forced removal in the 1830s which is about the time John left north central Georgia and moved into Kentucky. This is open to interpretation, as we have no paper trail for this family. But he is living in LaRue County or what became LaRue County in 1843. In 1857 his family and that of Benjamin Benedict Wilmoth, who married his daughter Mahala, moved to Edmonson County, Kentucky settling on Long Fall Creek where John died in about 1860. He was buried in what became known as the Old Carroll Cemetery, but it was relocated to Hill Grove Missionary Baptist Church in the 1960's when the Nolin Dam and Reservoir was built.
