There now six men who have matched at least 35 markers out of 37 markers. Five of those are shown in orange on the chart at http://www.childtalk.com/History/carrollfamilydnavalues.mht The other one is two lines above the orange. Four of those men did not know each other but each had a strong genealogy trail to a cluster of Carrol/Carrell/Carroll families who lived in Sampson County, NC in 1790. Three of those four matched perfectly. Another man descended from a person born in SC in 1808 had no known connection to Sampson County, NC, but he matches 36/37, so there was a connection at some time in the past. One other who thinks he comes from Sampson matched 35/37. These six men give a pretty good cluster with which others can compare. There is another cluster near the top of the chart in blue. Some of those have known ties to Orange County, NC. A DNA test would not tell you the name of Leonard's father, but it could tell you if you are related to one of these clusters already developing.... or if perhaps you could begin a unique group for those born in SC. Some day someone else would thank you for helping them find kinfolks. If you or anyone else is interested, I would strongly urge you to do the Y-DNA37 or the Y-DNA67 test. Less than 37 alleles (markers) are not enough to get a reliable result. You get a reduced price from FamilyTreeDNA if ordered through the CARROLL project. See all the links at http://www.familytreedna.com/(c1unxwvjnrr3oebovhuard3e)/public/carroll/index.aspx?fixed_columns=on You can order by clicking on "Request to Join this Group" near the top left. For any questions or for advice about ordering, contact the project administrator, Kevin Carroll at [email protected] I have come to the conclusion that DNA testing is the only way we are going to be able to unravel the mystery of these CARROLL families who came here early, worked hard, and stayed out of trouble with the law. They didn't leave many court records for us to follow. Lura CARROLL Southard Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
