The 300 year old house has deteriorated to the point that it must be restored or will no longer be usable. Plans had been made that would supply the funds to do this. The Bad News: An article had been published in the Chicago Tribune on June 26, 2009, saying that plans previously made to restore and preserve the home of Charles Carroll of Carrollton had been put on hold because of the recession. Plans had been made to allow 2000 units for senior housing to be built on 188 acres of the estate, and the capital from that sale would have been used to restore the 300 year old Carroll home. But Erickson Retirement Communities had to drop those plans for the senior living complex. There is GOOD news: An article in the Baltimore Sun on September 15, 2009 tells of a revised plan which will still provide some revenue for the family to restore the historic home. It is the only home of one who signed the constitution which is still owned by his family. It would be a shame if it were allowed to deteriorate after 300 years.
