    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: southard Surnames: CARROLL CARRELL Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carroll/1060.1065.2660/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I would very much like to know if any man from the Isle of Wight County, VA, CARROLL/CARRELL Family has sent a sample of his DNA to be tested and then compared in the Carroll Project. There are several who "wonder" if they might be related to that family. Kevin Carroll is the Administrator of the Project, and the DNA samples are processed by FamilyTreeDNA. A kit can be ordered at http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?code=F25174&Group=Carroll Please order the Y-DNA37 or the Y-DNA67 if possible. The Y-DNA12 just does not provide enough information to be helpful. Other sites that might give more information about the DNA project are http://www.familytreedna.com/public/carroll/default.aspx and http://www.familytreedna.com/public/carroll/default.aspx?section=goals and http://www.familytreedna.com/public/carroll/default.aspx?section=news and http://www.familytreedna.com/public/carroll/default.aspx?section=yresults The following site is the one where Kevin has put the Y-DNA results into groups that seem to be related to each other. In other words, those shown in one color probably had a common ancestor at some point in the past. You can see the known ancestors of the DNA donor on the right end of each line. http://www.carrollroots.com/carrollfamilydnavalues.pdf Many of you were told as you grew up that your family was related to Charles Carroll of Carrollton. Now you can know for sure whether you have a male connection to that famous family. The large dark green section includes the record of a DNA sample of that family. If you wonder if your Carrolls were part of the very prolific family in Sampson/Duplin County, NC, then send a sample to see if you match those in the large orange section. Other groups are beginning to emerge as well. Does one of them contain the descendants of your ancestor? There is a Rootsweb mail list dedicated to the discussion of the use of DNA in researching the CARROLL family. Anyone wishing to join should send a letter to Carroll-DNA-request@triad.rr.com with the one word SUBSCRIBE on the subject line and in the body of the message. Now do you see how we are making progress in sorting out this very difficult surname? The more samples are sent, the faster we will define kinship.
