I had to give "how much terbaccy pap had" a little thought. Not only "terbaccy" but the regional accents come into play. For some reason, one of my HEDRICKS ancestors quite often got recorded as HENDRICKS. I have found my CARROLL ancestor spelled a variety of ways, the most unusual was CANOLL in a census transcription -this due to the very sloppy handwriting of the census taker. After viewing a copy of the original document, I probably would have made the same interpretation. If you focus on only one certain spelling, you may miss finding your ancestors.
