If you are using Ancestry.com, the 1870 surname is indexed as CARELL & the 1900 is indexed as CAROLL. In brief: 1870 John CARELL, 45, Farmer, b. Ireland Catherine--, 40, Keeping House, b. Ireland Margaret---, 15, b. NY Edward-----, 13, b. NY Maria------, 8, b. NY 1900: John CAROLL, b.Mch 1830,70,years married 42,Ireland Catherine--, b.Apl 1820,80,years married 42,Ireland, 4 Children, 3 Living Margaret---, b.May 1860,40,single,NY Maria------, b.Jan 1865,35,single,NY I looked around some in 1860 using different spellings for Carroll (Carol, Carrol, Caroll, etc.) but didn't find them. If you think they are in Erie Co. NY in 1860, then you may have to search page by page. Between the census taker's handwriting and creative spelling, sometimes the transcriber has a hard time deciphering. I found my CARROLL indexed as CANOLL in one census. Also, looks like John & Catherine were creative with their ages. Good luck Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
