Author: WilliamAllred13 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carroll/1054.1133/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Curious to know whether you ever got any additional replies to your query. I am researching a Carroll line. I have Robert Carroll born 1798 married to a woman by the name of Ann. In some sources he is born in Tennessee, in others in North Carolina. Ann is listed in 1850 Census as being born in North Carolina. They lived in the Paducah, Kentucky area in the 1840s and 1850s. They then moved into Arkansas. Robert is still alive in 1860 census. Ann is not. Nothing further on Robert after 1860 Census. Trying to learn more about their ancestors. William and Daniel are names I see in their line, so it makes me curious to know more about the William Carroll you have information about and his children. Is this info from a will? Do you have a copy of it you could share? Or maybe provide me the county and year it was probated so I can get a copy on my own? Thank you. Author: wrmykin Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carroll/1019.2436.2446/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Lucius, I believe my great-grandmothers sister either worked for your grandfather or great-grandfather. George Wyman Carroll who was married to Emma F.Briggs. According to the 1920 US Federal Census Nora Bohan was working as a cook for this family. I'm curious if there are any old photos of any of the servants your family may have had. I must admit my great-aunt Nora did very well for herself. She came from Ireland, she first worked for Frank.S Gerome who was a banker, then she worked for Dr. clinton Stark and then George W. Carroll. She either heard some great conversations and stock tips when serving meals or all of these individuals helped her along the way. Either way ole Nora was pretty shrewed. She lived a very long life and when she passed away in 1949, she had her own home, plenty of cash, a great deal of stocks and bonds, a brand new Cadalliac(she didn't drive or my mother didn't think she did).Too boot she was unmarried. So much for "ole Spinsters" Several years ago I went to Connecicut to do some research and I was in Norwich, I did find the house, I was very tempted to knock on the door and see if the present family found any old boxes in the attic. But I ran out of time. Margaret Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: auntiebonkhead Surnames: Carroll, Marsden Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carroll/7368.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, I think we may have a connection! My 2x Great Grandmother was Elizabeth Carroll, born 1873 in Preston. Her father was Robert Carroll, b.1852 in Preston. Robert had a brother called Edward born c.1866 in Preston - their parents were Henry Carroll and Jane Marsden. My research has thrown up a line of hairdressers in the family, including Henry and Robert, and I also have addresses for them on Ribbleton Lane, Preston. There are entries for Henry, James and Robert Carroll as hairdressers in the 1881 Mannex & Co Directory for Preston, with Henry living at 256 Ribbleton Lane. Sounds like too many similarities to be coincidence! I currently live in Yorkshire, so am in the UK - would love to share information! 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: lisalockett21 Surnames: Carroll, Cottingham, Wollett Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carroll/7473/mb.ashx Message Board Post: James CARROLL born Sept. 1820 in Ireland and died 1898 in Baltimore Co. was married three times, 1-Bridget Hay(e)s who died 1856, 2-Rosetta Campbell died 1879. I am trying to find information on wife #3 with whom he had a daughter, Annie, born in 1885. Wife #3 was Mary WOLLETT. Nothing else is known of her. I might have found her and Annie on the 1900 census in Balto. City but Mary is listed as widow born in Germany. According to his obituary, Mary and Annie were not living with James when he died in 1898. I don't know why. Annie married Samuel Herbert COTTINGHAM who died in 1931 and they had no children. Annie made her burial arrangements herself in 1965 and died in 1979. She lists her mother as Mary C. WOLLETT. James is buried in Long Green Cemetery, Long Green (Hydes), and Annie is buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Baltimore. I would like to find out when James and Mary married and where. When did Mary die and where is she buried. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
