    1. [CARROLL] Carrolls in Mercer County, PA
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: astrocady Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carroll/7512/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have tracked by family back to Worth Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. My great-great grandfather, Edwin H. Carroll was listed there on the 1860 Census as an 8 year old, son of William and Barbara Carroll. William was listed as 45 years old, which would but his birthday about 1815. It seems that William Carroll was a very popular name in Mercer County, PA at that time, and I haven't been able to pick up the trail prior to William and Barbara. My grandmother repeatedly told us we were related to Charles Carroll of Carrollton, and could rattle off all the great-greats-names, concluding with "and he was a cousin to Charles Carroll of Carrollton." Unfortunatly, none of us were bright enough to write done the names of those 'great-greats.' So I guess I'm asking if there are any of you with ties to Mercer County, PA during the 1st half of the 1800s have traced your roots back to Charles Carroll of Carrollton? Any help greatly appreciated. Steve Carroll Bradenton, FL Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: S_Mulledy Surnames: O'Carroll, Mulledy Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carroll/3666.1.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Jan, Sure was happy you are still getting messages. Regarding the Joanna O'Carroll I'm speaking of, some information I've read said she may have been married before, but I have found nothing with foundation for that. I did rely on the book Princes of Ireland, Plantion of the O'Carroll family in Maryland (I think that's the name). It is the only reference I have ever found to the daughters of Anthony, son of Daniel and brother of Charles the Emigrant in Baltimore, Maryland. I have found other documentation of real estate transactions between Joanna O'Carroll and her husband Joshua Howard, with a Daniel O'Carroll in Baltimore, Maryland. I have not really done any research of my own on this line, but it is good to find what information is out there. As far as the Mulledy name, that is my father's name and it is very unusual and can be spelled many different way and still be the same family. My g grandfather came over to the US in about 1888 and settled in Rockland County, New York. He lived with an Aunt and Uncle until he married. Now some of the Census's show the Aunt & Uncle (Patrick & Mariah Mulledy had a son who must have moved to the Boston area because his daughter shows as having been born there. My third cousin whom I found still living where our family is from (Ballymahon, Longford County, Ireland) says there are cousins that live in Boston, but I do not know them. I was at somewhat of a disadvantage in knowing much because my father and his family were estranged from the other Mulledy's, but with the little he did know I was able to root them out. I would love to keep in touch. My e-mail is coeescrow@hotmail.com and my full name is Susan Mulledy-DeFrank. Hope to hear from you soon. Author: S_Mulledy Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carroll/3666.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I noticed your very old post regarding Anthony O'Carroll of Ireland. I just recently was moving into researching my family's connection with the O'Carroll family. It goes pretty far back to Joanna (JoHanna) O'Carroll who married Joshua Howard of Baltimore, Maryland. There is now pretty good evidence and documentation that Joanna was one of the three daughters that Anthony O'Carroll also had in addition to his four sons. So she would be the niece of the first Charles O'Carroll who came to Baltimore. As Anthony & Charles were brother's and Daniel was their father. I just always found it hard to believe that none of these guys had any daughters. Someone finally rooted them out. Lets connect this family.
