Author: jondmyers Surnames: CARROLL MAIN WHITNEY WRIGHT Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carroll/7526/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have hit a brick wall for Virginia CARROLL who married Oscar Ray MAIN 1904 in Seattle, King, Washington. Virginia was born May 1881 in Mississippi and died about 1960 in Seattle after divorcing Oscar between 1920 and 1930. Working backward from the census records I have found: 1930 - Seattle, King, Washington Virginia C Main, 49, is living with her children Frank W Main, 22, and Carroll Main, 21. 1920 - Napavine, Lewis, Washington Oscar R Main, 40, and Virginia C Main, 37, are living with their children Frank W Main, 13, and Carrol Main, 11. 1910 - Seattle Ward 7, King, Washington Oscar R Main, 32, and Virginio Carroll Main, 29, are living with their children Carroll Main, 1, and Frank Whitney Main, 3. 1904 - Oscar and Virginia marry, probably in Seattle, Washington. 1900 - Seattle Ward 8, King, Washington Jennie Carroll, 19, is listed as the neice of Wm Whitney, 45. William Whitney is marride to Annie B WRIGHT, 40, and her parents Edmund Wright, 92, and Fidilia Wright, 80, are living with them and and their two children Clem Whitney, 14, and Tirone Whitney, 4. Also living with them is "Mary Carroll" - 39 - who is listed as a servant but not as the mother of Virginia (Jenny). And this is my brick wall. "Neice" has meant a lot of different things on census records, so I don't know if it is literal, or she is actually a cousin, or someone they took in - or even if Mary is or is not her mother. The break there is Mary was born in Illinois, but Virginia has on every cencus record indicated that she and both of her parents were born in Mississippi. Alos an important note is Virginia and Oscar's first child is name Frank Whitney Main and his California death record indicates his mother's maiden name as Carroll - as do both of their children's Washington birth records, so it is in fact her maiden name and not her middle name. Also, Frank's middle name of Whitney indicates to me that the "Jennie" I have found in Seattle is my Virginia and that her mother is a sister of William Whitney who married a CARROLL. I have started to research this line but hope that any of these names may be recognized here. Thanks! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Greetings all from Australia, I am new to this list and I would be most grateful for any information offered in my quest to find something about my Carroll ancestors. My g grandfather James Carroll, aged 20 years old in 1857 married Annie Anastasia Marsh in Sydney. On the marriage certificate details are: he was born in Dublin he names his parents as JOHN CARROLL and HONORA MORLEY. Would anyone be able to assist me with the date & place of John & Honora's marriage? Also any suggestions as to where I maybe able to search for James arrival date into Australia. I have not been able to find any record of James death in Australia...his daughter (my grandmother) & son were raised in an orphanage........they were there when their mother died in 1892, ages were 14 and 10 respectively. Any assistance would be most gratefully accepted. Cheers & again thank you, Ellen

I noticed the name Honora Carroll and Kennedy. (Like so many others, we have been told we are relatives of Charles Carroll of Carrollton. The best I can figure is that we may be descendants of Charles' Uncle Michael of Lisheenboy.) At any rate, my GG Grandmother is Honora Carroll, born in Ireland (Tipperary) and her parents are another Charles Carroll and Anne Kennedy. I would love to know if you see any connection. Thanks. If one of my fellow genealogists have access to these records and could check for this it would be greatly appreciated. The Irish Family Foundation has records of marriages in Limerick on line but they are 5 Euros each and there are quite a few listings for JOHN CARROLL or MARY/JOHANNA HARTIGAN. No way to tell if they are married to each other. I wouldn't mind paying for the record if I knew it was them. This could get quite expensive otherwise. Thank you for your help. This could mean black,Indian,Asian, mixed races "mulatto', whatever, anyone that wasn't caucasian. Until later, then they started using terms like black, Asian,Indian, etc. So, when you see that term, you still can't be positive unless. It just takes a lot of digging.
