    1. [CARROLL] Patrick J Carroll & Thomas M Heffernan Married Sisters?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: aacampbell Surnames: Carroll, Heffernan, Hurlihy, Herlihy Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carroll/7528/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Am looking for information on Patrick J. Carroll, b Apr 1845 Ireland and Thomas McCormack Heffernan, b. 1846 Tipperary, Ireland. The information I have is that they married Hurlihy sisters from Boston - Thomas Heffernan married Joanna (Johanna) and Patrick married her sister, name unknown. I have 1880 census records showing Thomas Heffernan married to Johanna circa 1871 in St. Louis, MO. where she died the same year the census was taken. {Actually she was alive when the first 1880 census was taken and listed as dead on the retake.} All looks good except I don't know the sister's name. Now I find on the 1900 census Patrick Carroll married to a Johanna in 1871. So now I am very confused. I'm fairly sure the two men are the right ones because of their locations/occupations [Patrick a tailor in Boston and Thomas a policeman in St. Louis]. Why would there be 2 Johanna Hurlihy's with the same parents? Also missing is the St. Louis Johanna Heffernan's son John D. Heffernan who was supposed to have been raised by Patrick Carroll back in Boston when his mother died. All help out of this mess appreciated! This may be old news to you now since 2 yrs have passed since you posted this message. I recently acquired some old files that belonged to my Grandfather..Henry C Carroll (d 1967). He saved some obituary clippings. One was for Peter F Carroll who died at age 81. Peter lived at 5861 Haverford Ave and was a retired brick manufacturer, a former member of H C Carroll & Sons of 67th St & Gilmore Ave. He was also a director of the Integrity Trust Co. It lists survivors as 4 daughers, Rev Mother Seraphine, Sister Mary, Elicia and Benigna. Also, he had 3 sons, Eugene A, Benedict L and Vincent P Carroll. I'm sending the clipping as an attachment. I am descened from him through his son Nathaniel. I have been trying to trace Thomas futher back. I have seen two different versions, both originating with Daniel Carroll of Litterluna, Ireland. In one he is desecended from Daniel's son Anthony of Lisheenboy> his son Daniel> another Daniel> Thomas. The Daniels in this version may have been sailors. Another, grander version (apparently used by Thomas' son William, gov of Tennessee) is thus: Daniel of Litterluna> Charles the Settler of Maryland> Daniel of Upper Malboro Maryland> Daniel II of Rock Creek Maryland> Thomas.
