I am researching the Carrolls who settled in Steuben County, New York. I am related to Andrew, Thomas, Owen who immigrated from Ireland (possibly county Cavan) in the 1840s. There was also a Nancy Carroll who immigrated at the same time but who stayed in New York city. There were other Carrolls there in Steuben earlier also. Any other descendants?? Regards Chet Carroll

I am looking for an Elizabeth "Lizzie" Carroll, born about 1849, who married John David Hadwin in SC about 1874. She is listed in the 1880 Census in Barnwell County as Elizabeth Hadwin. She is also listed in the 1900 Census in Bamberg County as Elizabeth Hadwin. In the 1910 Census, her husband, John D. Hadwin is listed as widowed. On the death certificate of her daughter Fannie Hadwin Mitchum, she is listed as Lizzie Carroll. Family folklore says her name was Mary Elizabeth, but I've never seen that on any document. The 300 year old house has deteriorated to the point that it must be restored or will no longer be usable. Plans had been made that would supply the funds to do this. The Bad News: An article had been published in the Chicago Tribune on June 26, 2009, saying that plans previously made to restore and preserve the home of Charles Carroll of Carrollton had been put on hold because of the recession. Plans had been made to allow 2000 units for senior housing to be built on 188 acres of the estate, and the capital from that sale would have been used to restore the 300 year old Carroll home. But Erickson Retirement Communities had to drop those plans for the senior living complex. You can read the article at http://www.chicagotribune.com/topic/bal-md.ho.manor26jun26,0,1917790.story But Wait.... There is GOOD news: An article in the Baltimore Sun on September 15, 2009 tells of a revised plan which will still provide some revenue for the family to restore the historic home. It is the only home of one who signed the constitution which is still owned by his family. It would be a shame if it were allowed to deteriorate after 300 years. That article is at http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/howard/bal-md.ho.manor15sep15,0,2457364.story Lura CARROLL Southard Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I received an email from you this summer but wasn't able to access this posting for some reason. Anyway, Yes, I believe that they were married in 1877 approximately. John P. Carroll was born in August 1856 and Margaret Allen was born in September of 1858 as far as I know. The dates could be a little off. But, I believe that John came over in 1884 to the states and Margaret and John Jr. followed in 1886. Any additional information you are able to provide would be fantastic! Thanks a million!
