I know it is has been handed down through the generations that "some Carroll's are related to the famous signer of the Declaration of Independence, Charles Carroll of Carrollton. For your reference, there is a book of his decendants at the Maryland Historical Society to see if your family is listed. I know I saw it there. Alas, I am not related to that family even though it had been said by everyone in my grandmother's generation except for my grandmother! She was right! Good luck, LYNN
I have a lot of info about my Carroll family but still can't find Demse's ancestors. Can ANYBODY help me? He was born 1711...I am told his father was Daniel. They were in Westmoreland, Fairfax and Loudoun counties. He married Rebekah Carroll from Somerset Co., Md. (3rd) ; Elizabeth ? (2); and Frances Sanford , first. Our family bible says he was of the Carroll family of Maryland.
Carroll Researches, Yesterday Ancestry.com released a new database which will be free for anyone to use 10 days. It is: North Carolina Marriage Bonds, 1741-1868 http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/inddbs/4802.htm In it I found the following numbers of names which could be CARROLL ancestors. CURRELL 6 CORRELL 62 CARL 12 CURLES 3 CURLE 4 CARREL 53 CARRELL 147 CARROL 71 CARROLL 186 I hope this will be helpful to any that have ancestors which MAY have married in North Carolina. Remember, this is the date of the marriage bond, and may or may not have been the actual date of the marriage. If you have a date a few days later, they may both be accurate. Alexander CARRELL/CARROL married Lucy RYAL/ROYAL in Duplin County, NC on April 7, 1783. By time for the 1790 census the area where they lived around Six Runs Creek near Turkey, NC, had become Sampson County. Demcy Carrel co-signed Alexander's marriage bond (father?). Alexander also bought some land from Demcy Carroll and his wife Martha. Demcy Carrel, Edmund Carrel, and Manson Carrel were witnesses when Alexander later sold land. According to Alexander's will which was written in 1827 (no record of probation) his children were Hardy Carrell, Reason Carrell, Wiley Carrell, Phanny Bridges, Rebekah Carrell, MaryAnn Tedder, and Betsey Ann Royall. Major Hardy Carrell settled in Stokes County, NC. I have information to share on his family, but I would like to know anything about Alexander's parents or other children. Thanks, Lura

Looking for information re John Joseph Carroll born about 1816 in Ireland (possibly Dublin) and his descendants. He attended Trinity College 1833-34. Married Mary Robinson (1817-1869) about 1838, some of the children were born in Wales. Came to New York about 1848. Children: James (Jane?), John Joseph, William, Thomas, Michael, Catherine. Married Mary Ann Murray (1857-1905) in 1871. Children: James John, Mary Sarah, Sarah Ann, Edward Francis, Catherine Agnes.
My great-great-grandparents, Margaret Kennedy and Denis Carroll, were married in Kildorrery, Cork, in 1813. It seems as if the Carrolls arrived in that area from county Tipperary in the late 1700's. I do not know all of their children because records were not kept that early, but between 1813-1837 they did have Ellen, Denis, Margaret, Veronica Ann (who always went by Ann), Edmond, Mary, Catherine, and Anthony. I have never found a descendant of anyone other than V. Ann, my ggrandmother. The family seemed to leave the area in the 1800's. I am interested in the Carrolls of PEI, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick (especially those of Northumberland County). A few even from Newfoundland. I have amassed a lot of information on the Northumberland County, NB Carrolls of the 19th century. Many of their descendants scattered westward throughout Canada and the northern states (especially Maine, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota). I would be most happy to share this with others and to add to it whatever new info might come along. I have started a web site that contains a few of the above-noted Carroll families. It's located at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~jcarroll/index.htm Take a look and let me know what you think or if I might have additional Carrolls not listed there (yes I do!). I am working madly to update and expand the site. This will be coming soon (next week??). ----- Joe Carroll Minnetonka, MN PS: Disclaimer (so you can more easily delete this message): I am not connected to the Carrolls who entered the US directly nor to any Carrolls south of, say, New York.

Apparently the 1871 date is their marriage? I.e. they are not found in the 1870 census? How about 1880, 1900, etc? Did Massachusetts have the 5-year censuses (e.g. 1875, 1885, etc)? Did they live their lives in Needham? If so, the county should have a death record, that will lead (hopefully) to an obit which might (again, hopefully) have lots of stuff in it like who Elizabeth's survivors were (names and places). Also, church records of the kids' baptisms. Maybe some siblings came as sponsors? Anyway, have fun!! --------- Joe Carroll Minnetonka, MN Searching Carrolls of Northumberland Co., New Brunswick (all the way to Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin).
