I am looking for Gus Carroll who had a son with Nancy Ray (don't know if they were ever married or not) named Ross Carroll in 1882 in probably Lafayette County, MS. Don't know if Gus died or they divorced (if they were ever married), but Nancy Carroll is shown in Lafayette County, MS records as marrying J. R. Wakefield. I know that the Wakefields moved to Texas, either Graham, TX or Midland, TX and they flipflopped between Mississippi and Texas for several years...but Nancy died in Texas in the 1930s and Ross Carroll, her son, died in Lafayette County, MS in the early 1960s. Would like any information on Gus Carroll, as I don't have any information...birth, marriage, death, burial...etc.... Anyone connected to me? Marylin, Thanks for sharing this bit of advice with all of us. It sounds as though I have missing a valuable bit of information. The problem is most of my relatives were farmers and probably did not have a Social Security card, but I will certainly check it out. Lura Still looking for ancestors for Alexander Carrol/Carrell who married Lucy Ryal/Royal in Duplin County, NC April 7, 1783.
Hi Robby, Adolphus wed Adeline(?) probably before 1842, and had at least Elizabeth Carroll (b1842 d 1918), Milus Smith Carroll (1847-1948), and James L Carroll (b1849 d?). We know nothing more about Elizabeth or James. Perhaps James or Adolphus' brother Gustavus had offspring as we don't know what happened to them. Milus Smith Carroll wed Sarah Catherine Neil 1867, York County, SC - and had 11 children 1 John Erwin (1868-1930) 2 Harriet E (or A) "Hattie" (1870-1928) 3 Milus Gustavus "GM" (1871-1957) 4 William Allison or Adam (1874-1938) 5 Mary Leslie "Miss Leslie" (1875-1954) 6 Wade Hampton (Died as Child) (1876-1878) 7 Lela Irene (1880->1928) 8 James A. "Jim" (1882-1938) 9 Effie (1882->1928) 10 Jessie May (1883->1928) 11 Ella (1885-1934) I believe most of them lived and died in York County, SC.
Does anyone have a current mailing address or phone number for AIS? They published several census Indices in the past 15-20 years. Someone stole volume 3 of the 1860 Texas Census index from the Dallas Public Library and I would like to buy a replacement. The address in Utah on the publication sheet in volume 1 is no longer a valid address. Thank you very much David

The 1906/09 Guion Miller Roll was to share in an award of cash to the Cherokees ONLY (NOT all five tribes). The requirements were that the applicant be able to prove heirship from an ancestor who was shown on the 1835 Henderson Roll (the easten band prior to Removal). This roll did NOT require "continuous residence in Indian Territory" as did the Dawes Roll. The applicants could (and did) live anywhere they pleased. Below, find application for Christopher C. As there are already over 28,000 applications on. file and the claimants are widely scattered through the United States; it will necessarily take considerable time to have all of these cases adjudicated, and until they are so determined no money can be distributed If there is any further information required in connection with your claim you will be duly notified. In searching for links to the Shelton surname, I ordered the Guion Miller application for a Christopher C. Carroll. There was no link, but there was quite a lot of family info. For those of you who do not know, Guion Miller was appointed by an act of congress to distribute a fund compensating those of Cherokee ancestry. Needless to say, money was involved and there was a lot of fraud. If anyone is interested, I can paste in a transcription to the list, or if you can receive attachments, I will be glad to send anyone privately, an Adobe Acrobat .pdf file of the whole application.
