    2. Kathy: I found your email very interesting since I am also a descendant of Benjamin Carroll and Nancy Peeler. Were the children that you listed theirs or Archibald's? Some of the children I have for Benjamin and Nancy are different from yours. Mine are listed according to the Will of Benjamin. You can check mine out at Familytreemaker.com and type in "Wanda Faye Strycker" and my home site should come up. I would like to talk to you further about this after you have looked mine over. Thanks, Faye Carroll Strycker

    3. The folks at the NC Library were kind enough to send me information on the family of Benjamin Carroll of Orange County, NC. This has a wonderful outline and some Will informaion. I am specifically looking for those related to Archibald Carroll, son of Benjamin Carroll and Nancy Peeler whom married January 13, 1786. Their children include Nancy Carroll born 1814 Benjamin Carroll born 1821 Moses Carroll born 1826 Betsey Carroll born 1828 James Carroll born 1836 Archibald Carroll born 1837 Becca Carroll born 1843 Found in records pertaining to my family is the following. John Berry Carroll was born circa 1812 near Raleigh, North Carolina. He married 1) Sarah Ann Shelburne daughter of Silas Shelburne and Margaret Knott. They had issue of their marriage the 2 children . Dated 24 June 1841 and filed 26 Dec. 1846. John Carroll and his wife, Sarah Ann, sold Sabine River land to Hugh P. Dear. (Conveyance Bk A, p. 294) The following information on John Carroll was found at the Historical Museum in Marshall, Harrison County, Texas. It was written by his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Montgomery that married his son Daniel from a second marriage. The Carroll family is of Irish ancestry, the name being formerly OCarroll. It is said that and OCarroll was King of Ireland in its early history. "The Carrolls that came to America dropped the O and because of their differences in creed separated. The Carrolls of Baltimore being Catholics. The Protestant branch of the family went to North Carolina. The Gr Grandfather of Daniel Watkins Carroll (would be John Berry Carrolls grfather) owned a farm in three miles of Raleigh N.C. He had several sons: Benjamin, who became a preacher--John and Calvin went to Louisiana. There was also a Moses, which I think proves that the family was great Bible readers and Calvinists. What is most important here is that Benjamin and Moses are listed in the same family and also in the outline above. Would like to hear from anyone associated with this line. Kathy

    2. I have a Charles CARROLL , who was the brother of my great grandfather Thomas P. Carroll. Charles was the oldest of eight children. I have very little other information except that my g grandfather was born in New Brunswick, Canada on June 16, 1862. Their first seven children were born in Duluth, Minn. I checked Joe Carroll's web site and it doesn't look like any of his Charles' are connected with mine. She died of the 1918-1919 flu and my mother was about 3 years old. She was of english descent, and was buried in Molly Fields cemetery near Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The family bible was destroyed by fire which I am sure listed the events (marriage, etc.) We know Newton was from South Carolina and was about l/4 Cherokee Indian. Nora was born in 1889 and died in 1919. Three children were born to them, Raymond, Ervin and Cynthia. Cynthia is the only surviving child. She will be 84 this year, and I'm having trouble locating anything about "Nora" her mother. I was amazed by the number of Carroll's listed! My e-mail is katz@globenetworks.com. Would appreciate anything you might know about this side of the family. If anything, it is really interesting to read all of Carroll's! Yes, Jackie, we have exchanged info, but it has been almost a year since I have given much attention to genealogy. Since the death of my wonderful husband last August, I have been busy just trying to maintain the tasks of daily living. Thank you so much for your interest and your response. I have gradually picked up bits of info on these Sampson and Duplin County, NC Carroll/Carrells. I am going to be very busy for the next two weeks, but then I will try to post some of my information. I now have Alexander Carrell's will, one land grant, and several deeds. The deeds show the names of persons who owned adjoining property. I have tried to piece together all the Carroll families, and still have not found an Alexander in any of them. However, several of them did live in the same region around Six Runs Creek, so I think they must have been related. I think there were at least 2 Carroll families - maybe more. I think some of them were in the area long before Jesse came from Granville County, NC. In fact Jesse married Rachel Gavin whose mother was supposed to have been Patience Carroll prior to her marriage to Samuel Gavin in Duplin County, NC in 1756. That is the earliest Carroll marriage I have found in that area. Folks often married cousins in those days. I have wondered if Patience may have been a sister to Jesse's father, William. One of the Sampson County Heritage books mentions that the John Carroll family came from Craven County, NC in the 1730s. I think they lived right there in the same place in 1730s. I can't find documentation on that right now, but I think that whole area was called Craven before it became New Hanover, then Duplin, then Sampson. More in a few weeks, Lura

    3. I wish to thank everyone who responded to my request for a current address for AIS - Accelerated Indexing System - and there were many of you! First I must apologize for a mis-typing. I MEANT the 1870 Texas Census not the 1860 Texas Census. Many of you pointed out that the 1860 Census index is only 1 volume, not 6 or 8. AIS has been purchased by Heritage Quest in Utah. Phone # 800-760-2455. I verified the phone # and the fact that they had bought out AIS. However the 1870 Texas index is now on 1 cd and they prefer to sell the cd rather than the printed versions. They are checking to see if any of the printed volumes are still available. Again thanks to everyone who offered suggestions and shared information. Genealogists are cerrainly a very sharing community. David

    3. Hi Frank, I would like to know more about your John W. Carroll. I was able to get a copy of the book from our library here in Placerville, CA. and read it through. (Heritage of Sampson Co,NC). Still also looking to buy a copy if they ever reprint. >From the book it makes it sound like there are 2 families of Carrolls, but I feel we are all related. My Jesse Carroll is from old information I have, was born in Granville,NC, but we have recently had some question on that. All the old info said he was the son of William Carroll and Elizabeth (Spencer)? of Granville Co. We are still trying to figure that one out. Some dates ect. don't work out right. but time will tell. These wills I copied came from Sampson Co.wills 1784-1900 by Elizabeth E. Ross. I have not been able to verify if this book is still in print. It also has some of my other family in it. Fryars, Faisons, Chesnutts. I was interested in you reference to Craven Co. have you any other information on that? Maybe we can all figure this out, we could all be cousins. Looking forward to hearing from you again. Jackie in Shingle Springs, CA.

    3. Joe: Thanks for the response to my query. I'm sorry to say that the only reference I have to Quebec is on censuses. I don't know where to begin searching, as I know nothing about Canadian records yet. Need to get to the library and learn where to go. The first three daughters, in order, are Mary, Margaret and Helen. The first three sons, in order, are Thomas, William and John. Am I correct in believing that the first son is named after the husband's father; second after the wife's father? First daughter after the husband's mother; second after the wife's mother? I don't know about the third. When living in Wisconsin, which was from 1851 to 1870, the place named on census is Milwaukee. I found the family in the 1860 census there. I found a christening record of a Catherine Carroll in Portneuf, Quebec on 30 Mar 1832. Father's name is John and mother's is Helena. Sounds close, since Catherine should have been born circa 1830 (first child born 1848), but I don't know how to make the connection. Do you have any ideas? If I could find a marriage for Catherine Carroll to William Martley in the Portneuf area, I'd think that christening record more valid, wouldn't you? All ideas appreciated, and again, thanks for the response. Sally
