This family, however, doesn't appear anywhere in my database (which is admittedly sparse in areas). Do you know anything about Patrick himself? When and where born? Who his parents were? Any names, ages of siblings? Assuming Patrick married about 1847/8, he might have been born in the early 1820s. Given the name "Joseph Wilson", "Joseph" might have been his father's name and "Wilson" his mother's maiden name. Etc, etc...... Most of the names of the children are legion in my database. If I could connect, I'd be happy to provide anything relevant. Thanks. ---------- Joe Minnetonka, MN

    3. We have a photograph in our files that we found in our Wilson Family photos. The date is 1906. It is a public school building. The families involved in that line involve a long list - Wilson, Tompkins, Fickle, Madden, Carroll, Loughrey, Barnett, and many more. We created a webpage to house the picture in the hopes that some of you, someone, anywhere, might know where the building is located and the history behind it (OK, that is a long shot, but here goes....) http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~sabthomp/mysterybldg.htm Thanks ahead of time for taking a moment to view it. 3. Well said, Calvin....on with the research! Jessie -----Original Message----- From: CALVIN E PHILLIPS [SMTP:PHILLIPSCALVIN@prodigy.net] Sent: Sunday, August 27, 2000 5:18 PM To: CARROLL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [CARROLL] Listowner Comments I think a few comments are in order regarding the recent bit of unpleasantness. My wife (a CARROLL descendant) and I started this List several years ago, because we thought it would be useful in CARROLL family research, and - because no one else seemed to want to do it! We continue to volunteer our time (mostly mine) and money (mostly ours) to support it with minimal rules. There are, however, two that I insist on: 1) the List is for CARROLL genealogy and submissions are to be directly related to that topic and 2) unpleasant postings will NOT be tolerated. If a someone has something derogatory to say to another subscriber (including the Listowner), say it personally and directly, not to the entire List. Regarding the recent postings: First, the question about the FHC was entirely appropriate. I'm sure that there were others who might have had the same question. Further, it is hard to imagine anyone doing serious research who does not find the Family History Centers a valuable resource. Second, the first response to that question was entirely inappropriate-that individual was removed from the subscriber list. Third, I consider a couple of the dissertations that followed also inappropriate - those senders were also unsubscribed. Further, this is not a "moderated" List. I do not "filter" or attempt to "police" material sent to the List. I see a message at the same time everyone else does. It is my philosophy that the members of the List are, for the vast part, intelligent adults doing serious CARROLL family genealogy research. Enough said. Cal phillipscalvin@prodigy.net

    1. Re: [CARROLL] Listowner Comments
    2. Well, I think y'all are making a BIG mistake. The person's comment was misunderstood, and I think everyone that got all bent out of shape over it ought to be ashamed. It was just a poor attempt at humor. The phrase "that idiot show" was referring to the show SURVIVOR, which was a word the previous person had used in a comment. So, it was just someone's lame attempt at poking fun at the show "Survivor," I believe, and nothing more. (I admit I had a hard time understanding what he meant at first, too.)

    3. Oh gosh I don't think so! Try the Carroll website sent to the list a few minutes ago. I believe those Carroll's came here about that time! As for Maddens, I have a Hezekiah Madden, born August 6, 1812 in Virginia and died May 10, 1891 in Rawles Twp, Mills County, Iowa. He is buried in the Malvern Cemetery. In between Virginia and IA, they were in Muskegum County, OH; Putnam County, OH and then to Mills County in 1864. His wife's name was Mary. They travelled throughout these counties/states with the Fickle, Barnett and Wilson families. I left our letters intact below as I am sending this back to the Carroll List and on to the Madden list. Mary >Good afternoon Mary and Don, > >I've nothing more specific for Martin and Margaret Carroll's origins than a >mention in Martin's obit of >County Kerry. 3. I just visited your wonderful site. Wish I could say - YES, we are connected. At the same time I cannot say NO. Our Carroll's were here before 1801. To do a quick rundown, going backwards: Rebecca Carroll, born 1825 in Licking County, OH; married 1842 in Bureau County, ILL to Isaac Tompkins. She is buried at Fairview Cemetery at Annawan, Henry County, ILL. Her parents were James Carroll, born 1796 in Allegheny County PA. Married Ellen Loughrey in 1822 in Licking County, PA. They are buried at Fairview Cemetery at Annaway, Henry County, ILL.His parents were John Carroll, born 1775 in Cumberland or Westmoreland Co, PA. Married Rebecca Ryan about 1795 in Allegheny County, PA. His parents were probably James Carroll and a Margaret. Some of the early information has been sent to me, not confirmed by me. The last name was spelled Carroll and Carrell, sometimes by members of the same branch! Thanks for the note! And your site is great! Thank you for all your efforts. Mary and Don in Wyoming

    3. Lister's, We have to learn to be kind on these lists as all of us are learning regardless of how long we have being doing this. We were all green horns at one time and it would be appreciated if those of us who are intolerant keep their opinion to themselves or use their expertise to help those in need. A simple answer would of surficed. This list as well as the many that are out there are for those who have questions and none of them and I emphasize none of them are to be obused or offensive to others, otherwise the list owner will have the right to unsubscribe you,to which I ask, who is the list owner and why was BOB DYLANS message allowed to go out?
