    3. Cheryl, Some questions come to my mind. Do you know where the Craven District was located? How do you know that is where she was born? The reason for those questions is that I know a large part of NC was at one time called Craven County before it was divided into many more. There is still a Craven County, but it is only a tiny remnant of the original. I don't my history of the area well enough to know just when the line between NC and SC was finally settled and whether part of what is now SC may have been in the same Craven County/District as what is now NC. There were early Carrolls in what became Sampson County, NC, and that is where my brick wall appears in 1783. I'll write more about him later. Right now I just wonder if your Sarah could in any way be connected to these same Carrolls. Probably not, but in this game we have to try every possible strategy, don't we? Good luck, Lura ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cheryl" <cheryliz@directlink.net> To: <CARROLL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 07, 2001 3:43 AM Subject: [CARROLL] Are we having a RollCall for the New Year? > Are we having a RollCall for the New Year? 3. Looking for the children of William Carroll of North Carolina, possibly of Rutherford County, who fought at the Battle of King's Mountain. Also looking for county birthplace of John Wilson Carroll b. 1793 North Carolina. He may have been born in Rutherford County or Lincoln County. John Wilson Carroll served in the Company of Capt. Twiggs, 8th North Carolina Light Infantry Regiment during the War of 1812. Married Frances "Fanny" Franklin, may be grand niece of Dr. Benjamin Franklin, we aren't certain, however this is part of the family lore. She was born in Virginia according to papers she filed to claim a widows pension and land claim. She and John were married in 1814 and lived in Georgia where their oldest son Elijah Alewine Carroll was born there in 1815, according to his deposition added to her widows claim. John was a fine cabinet maker and carpenter and apparently helped to build homes for the Cherokee before their forced removal in the 1830s which is about the time John left north central Georgia and moved into Kentucky. This is open to interpretation, as we have no paper trail for this family. But he is living in LaRue County or what became LaRue County in 1843. In 1857 his family and that of Benjamin Benedict Wilmoth, who married his daughter Mahala, moved to Edmonson County, Kentucky settling on Long Fall Creek where John died in about 1860. He was buried in what became known as the Old Carroll Cemetery, but it was relocated to Hill Grove Missionary Baptist Church in the 1960's when the Nolin Dam and Reservoir was built. Doyle Sanders, Indian Territory (Oklahoma before 1907)

    3. For anyone interested in the Daniel Carroll of Rock Creek family history authored by Sr. Virgina Geiger, there is currently a copy on auction starting at $9.95 on ebay. You can search by name "Daniel Carroll" or by item number: 525934447. The title is Daniel Carroll II & His Descendants. I already own a copy and am listed, but this is very interesting for casual Carroll researchers since there is so much confusion between Charles, Daniel of Rock Creek and Daniel of Duddington.

    1. [CARROLL] Carrolls from Ireland
    2. twistedmom
    3. T. H. Carroll and Anna Murphy came from Ireland. Because of the names in the family I am assuming the T is Thomas and the H is probably Henry. They settled in NY. Here they had Catherine A (possibly Angela) Carroll in 12/22/1849 or 1852. These dates are a bit confusing as one document suggests one date and the 1900 Henderson County suggests the later date. They were also Catholic. As you can see they moved to Kentucky in the Henderson County area. She married John T Finan from Ireland and had a son John Thomas Finan. Later on 9/1/1885 she married a John E Rapp and had two more children. Delia C and James Henry. Catherine died in Evansville, IN in 1915. I know there were at least one other sibling and living with the Rapps in the 1920 Evansville, IN census was a Walter Carroll listed as a nephew. This is all the dates I have on them right now. Any info on these Carrolls would be much appreciated. Regina

    3. As I have not posted for a while, and have picked up some new info- here's hoping someone may be able to help me w/ my earliest Ferguson (so far) and Carroll. If you recognize any of the following, I would love to hear from you! William FERGUSON, b. 1778, presumably Washington County, PA. In 1803, he moves to Wayne Township area of Jefferson County, OH, settles on a farm there, and dies on that farm in 1868. He marries Margaret CARROLL around that time, either in PA or OH. As there are several CARROLLs in Jefferson County, perhaps she is from OH. According to a Jefferson County History, William is of Scottish ancestry. Margaret is not listed in William's will, so I will assume that she predeceased him. The children of the union, according to William's 1868 will are: James Ferguson m. Sarah Woods Robert Ferguson m. Elizabeth Porter Jefferson County, OH 1827 Samuel Ferguson Mary Ferguson m. Archibald Simeral Sarah Ferguson m. Archibald Leech Elizabeth Ferguson m. William Moorehead Bethiah Ferguson m. William Shannon Margaret Ferguson m. Thomas Miller Rachel Ferguson m. David Dunlevy I am descended through son, Robert FERGUSON. According to the Delaware County, OH 1850 Census, his family was as follows: Wife- Elizabeth, age 43 William Ferguson b. 8-26-1832 m. Mary Elizabeth Rosecrans June 13, 1854 Margaret J. Ferguson b. abt 1835 James Ferguson b. abt. 1837 Winfield Ferguson b. abt 1838 Mary A. Ferguson b. abt. 1840 Nathan P. Ferguson b. abt 1843 Robert and Elizabeth are buried in the Old Blue Cemetery, Kingston, Delaware County, OH. My line picks up with William and Mary Elizabeth as they move to Wayne County, IA and start their family there.Mary Elizabeth dies in 1891, and William remarries his first cousin, Mary Bethiah Ferguson, daughter of James Ferguson and Sarah Woods. William dies in 1922 at the age of 90. He and his first wife are buried in Promise City, IA
