Hello Carroll listers, I'm seeking Irish roots information on my ggrandfather, Lawrence Carroll, b. abt 1842 in Ireland, d. 20 Nov 1918 in Boonton, NJ. He appears in the 1880 Census, living in Boonton, NJ. He married Rose Quigley, b. April 1856 in New York. They raised the following 8 children - William Carroll - b. Oct 1873 Anna Margaret Carroll - b. abt 1876, m. Edward Henry Grant, 22 Jun 1899, Boonton, NJ Edward Michael Carroll - b. Sep 1878, d. 1954 Joseph Carroll - b. May 1882, d. 26 Feb 1915, Boonton, NJ Mary Carroll - ? Rose Cecelia Carroll - b. Dec 1889, d. 29 Aug 1911, Boonton, NJ Charles F Carroll - b. 8 Oct 1892, m. Bertha Marie Love 18 Feb 1915, d. 11 Oct 1970 Lawrence Kenneth Carroll - b. 6 Jan 1895, m. Ethel Pittenger, d. 17 Mar 1965, Boonton, NJ He is rumored to have emigrated from Ireland during the Potato Famine. I haven't, as yet, found him among the numerous lists of passenger ships. I make the assumption that he would have been in the company of family members based on his age at the time of the famine (1846-1848). I would appreciate any info anyone might have on Lawrence Carroll, his parents/siblings, his birth in Ireland and his arrival in the US. Also interested in hearing from anyone if any of the above children trigger some connection with your Carroll cousins. Thanks. Bruce Howell bhowell1@mediaone.net
I have only been on the list a short while, but I am beginning to see that my search is almost futile. It is now apparent that Carroll's are the Smith's of Ireland. Does anyone have a general consensus of when the Carroll migration began to this country. My John Wilson Carroll was born in North Carolina in 1793 which means at least his father was born in about 1765-1770. Just in the past week, I have seen New England Carroll's, Georgian's, New Jersey and of course Irish. Would there be a consensus on this list as to the most knowledgeable persons concerning this family. Surely this line has a common ancestor. At least two of my cousins, Faye Carroll of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Virginia Lee of Coweta, Oklahoma and myself, have been looking for years trying to find just one shred of evidence of the early life of John Wilson Carroll. Admittedly he is hard to track, being somewhat nomadic in his travels before arriving in Kentucky. At one time I thought I'd find his roots in Maryland or his father, but we have not established his parentage. Family lore states he was born in Chester County, South Carolina, however, subsequent findings state he was born in North Carolina. All of the Carrolls of Grayson, Hart, Edmonson, Barren and Warren Counties, Kentucky can trace their ancestry to this man. Many Kentucky Wilmoth's and Constants can do the same as well as many of the Sanders in the same area. Doyle Sanders Tulsa, OK

Hello, I am searching for Carroll's that origionally settled in Canada. Robert Carroll born abt. 1850 in Canada (maybe Quebec). From Church records it appears that he had at least two brothers, George and Simon. Both Robert and George had son's named Robert and William and a daughter named Mary. The eventually went to Ontario and MI. I've run into a dead end with this line, any help would be greatful.
