    1. [CARROLL] Benjamin Carroll and Elizabeth Samantha (Mitchell) Carroll
    2. Robert Carroll
    3. Hi everyone, I am trying to find information on the people listed abouve. She was a school teacher in Hancock Co. TN and Scott Co. VA, in the 1870's. He retired from Southern Rail Road in the 1920's. He was born in 1850 in Hancock Co. TN. She was born around 1853 in Hancock Co. TN. I am having trouble finding out anything, birth date, death date, etc, about them so I thought that I would try this route. I would like to know if anyone has any information about this or if anyone can tell me how to go about obtaining this information. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Benjamin's parents were William Bickley Carroll from Russell Co. VA and Jane Osborne/Osborn from Sneedville TN. Elizabeth's parents were Sterling Mitchell and Clarity Fletcher both from Sneedville TN. 1. [CARROLL] Little Compton
    2. Cal Phillips
    3. I just had to put my two-bits worth in as regards "Little Compton". I'm sure that there are a lot of people who know more about this than I, but here are a few things: I started school, first grade, at the Compton one-room country school in the fall of 1939. Miss Janice Patton was our teacher. We lived about two miles from the school and what remained of the little town. There were perhaps a dozen students covering most if not all eight elementary grades. Once a day, we all went with a bucket to a well about a quarter of a mile away to get drinking water. There wasn't much of a town left, just one "general-store" run by a gentleman named Walter Hymer. There were a couple of families still living on the town site. My sister-in-law's family, the Frocks, and the Hymers I believe were the only residents at that time. Some of that area was purchased by the Missouri State Government and exists as something of a park/wildlife preserve. I have a bit of information around about the old town and if I can find it, and if anyone is interested, I'll post it. Cal Phillips phillipscalvin@prodigy.net

    3. Sure Dennis, Here's what I have so far. John Carroll b. 1828, Claiborne Co. TN. father Hugh Carroll m. Ann Shelton. John Carroll m. Huldah Holcomb, 1857. Children were, Mary, Dick, Jefferson D., Frank, Nora, Albert, and Nellie. My husband descends from Mary Carroll m. John Cecil. They are found in McDonald Co. Mo., then Carroll Co. Ark, Madison Co. Ar, and the Cecils are from Newton Co. Ar. I have found an Albert living with my husbands grandmother in Addington, OK. 1910 census, but I'm not for sure this is the same one listed above. Jefferson Davis is buried in the Cecil cemetry, Madison Co. Ar., have found info. that he was murdered. I do know that Mary Carroll and John Cecil were in Chico Tx., then their children ended up in OK., Jefferson, Stevens, and Carter Co. I know this is sketchy, but have only been at this for a short time. Let me know if anything sounds familiar. 1. [CARROLL] Coleman Carroll in Philadelphia
    2. I am looking for descendants of Coleman Carroll who died in Philadelphia, 1909. He was the son of my ggGrandfather Patrick Carroll and Patrick's first wife Mary née Hennessy. Coleman was born about 1851 in Philadelphia. I am trying to find the maiden name of Coleman's wife Margaret. I would also like to learn from where (I believe in County Cork) Patrick came from. 1. [CARROLL] Esther or Hester Bing
    2. It is probable her maiden name was either Carroll or Craig as both names show up among her children and grandchildren. She married John Bing before 1742 when the first land patent was issued to them in the Baker Addition of Cecil Co. MD. They could have md in England or in any of the anvil states. It is a tough brick wall as there seems to be few records in Cecil Co. to help. Anyone out there know of a family that could fit? Have her daughters married names if that will help. Ginny in Wyoming.

    3. Thanks for the reply, I did'nt include all the history on John Carroll the first time, but here's what I have. His father was Hugh Carroll , born Martinsburg Va., in TN. engaged in farming, and was wagon master during the removal of the Cherokee to indian territory. He then settled in McDonald Co., Neosho Mo. Was killed in Newton Co. Ar. during the Civil war. Thanks again, appreciate all the help I can get. 1. [CARROLL] Administrator Virus Warning
    2. Cal Phillips
    3. Just a brief note re: virus activity. I don't want to start a thread on this subject, but I do want to warn you and perhaps offer you some help. I have received five or six messages during the past week with attachments that were almost certainly virus. They had various names and file extensions that included .gif, .exe and .txt. If you wish to pursue the subject, you can subscribe to the RootsWeb virus discussion list at: VIRUS-DISCUSSION-L-REQUEST@COMPUTERS.ROOTSWEB.COM or you can go to http://www.helpdesk.rootsweb.com where you can get to a page with a variety of links to help. Since the vast majority of virus come as attachments to e-mail, the best advice I can give is to NOT open any attachment unless you know the sender and know it is coming. Many of the current virus send messages without the knowledge of the host to everyone in their address book or to unopened e-mail. It is highly unlikely that we would receive a virus from our RootsWeb mailing list since they do not transmit attach- ments, but most of the ones that I have gotten are from subscribers to lists I administer. Hope this is of some help and now back to genealogy. Cal Phillips, Listowner/Admin. phillipscalvin@prodigy.net
