    1. Re: [CARROLL] Campbell County, TN
    2. Janet Deck
    3. Janet - George is my 3 great grandfather, daughter Elizabeth my 2 great grandmother. I am at a brick wall with George. Only have info for Elizabeth and brother William. (William died during the War.) I noticed you (or someone else on the list) had a Jordan listed in one of the other families. William had a son Jordan who lived out his life in Campbell County. William, Jordan and Jordan's son Samuel all had the same middle name - Carter. Perhaps that is George's wife's maiden name???? I believe Anna Carroll, living in the Pebly household, might be George's daughter-in-law. There is a marriage record for Anna Pebly and Samuel Carroll in 1842 in Campbell County. Rumor has it that Samuel deserted her and their three children. I've had no luck locating Samuel and the new family he supposedly started with a second wife. The rest of the Carroll's in Campbell do not appear to be connected to George - or at least nothing has been discovered to connect them so far. I haven't found a trace of George and Mary after the 1850 census. ANYONE out there descend from George and Mary????? 2. Max Carroll
    3. As far as I can ascertain all (or at leastalmost all) of the early Carrolls who settled in the Piedmont area of NC and SC including York are of the Scotch-Irish branch of Carrolls who mostly migrated from around Chester Co PA down the Catawba Trail between about 1730 to 1760. A good website for York Co. Carrolls can be found at the Downing/Carroll Kinfolk Website.

I live a couple of counties over in Spartanburg (also Spartanburg County) which also borders NC. (about a 2 hour ride). York County has another good size town called Rock Hill and is also where part of Carrowinds theme park is located. Hope you have better luck locating your Carrolls. Mine are from Ireland and came to New York. Lots of brick walls. Good Luck and if there is anything in my area that I can check for you just let me know. Nancy from South Carolina

    2. Oh I forgot, their first child was born abt 1831 so they were probably married before that. Now that I pay more attention to the kids here, I see their oldest was born in TN, so they obviously emigrated there. I feel pretty silly now LOL

    3. Korol, Karol,Carroll, My family immigrated from what is now Kleshchi, Belarus in the late 1800-1908. Once know to my grandfather as Grodno Russia in 1906 when he and other family members immigrated to America. My grandfather heritage line includes, Kuprian, Andrian, Patop, Alexy,Sergei Anton, Evdokim, and Elija Korol, to only name a few of the cousins. Most stayed on the east coast.I visited the tiny forest village of Kleshchi, Belarus last June and since have learned more of my family line. The Grodno and Minsk archives were excellent aids. Now I am looking for Arthur and Cecelia Karol. They were born here. I believe their father may have been Evdokim Karol. If anyone knows of this family line, of Evdokim and his wife and children, please contact me. Any help would be appreciated. I think Cecelia and her brother Arthur may be in their 50's now. I have school photos sent to me from the village. These school photos were taken here in America and sent to the village for family there to see. The photos had been handed down in the village and now are back to me.

    1. [CARROLL] No wonder they all came! America!
    2. No wonder all our ancestors fought to come to America! I will forever be grateful to them! - Marge Duffy Virgulak I received this from one of my friends and wanted to share. Pat K. TRIBUTE TO THE UNITED STATES This, from a Canadian newspaper, is worth sharing. America: The Good Neighbor. Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record: "This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States. When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it. When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped. The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, war-mongering Americans. I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American planes? Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon-not once, but several times-and safely home again. You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here. When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke. I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake. Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those." Stand proud, America! This is one of the best editorials that I have ever read regarding the United States. It is nice that one man realizes it. I only wish that the rest of the world would realize it. We are always blamed for everything, and never even get a thank you for the things we do. I would hope that each of you would send this to as many people as you can and emphasize that they should send it to as many of their friends until this letter is sent to every person on the web. I am just a single American that has read this, I SURE HOPE THAT A LOT MORE READ IT SOON. De nobis fabula narratur, their story is our story There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
